The Czech national team has completed its first training session in the new season. Coach Radim Rulík’s wards met in Karlovy Vary in the early evening, where they started preparing for the Finnish Karjala Cup.
The representatives did not compete in the KV Arena, but in the adjacent training hall, where it was very cold. “I got dressed so I didn’t even feel the cold. But the quality of the ice… I don’t know, we somehow managed it. The training was short but brisk. I took into account the boys from the extra league who played the match yesterday,” reports the 59-year-old coach.
Rulík would welcome it if the extra league was not played on Sunday before the match
The extra-league derby with Litvínov was still being played on the main pitch on Sunday, and the advertisements were painted over on Monday. “Now maybe everyone will tear me apart for this, but I would welcome it if before the repre break the games were played on Thursday and Saturday, so that it was enough to repaint the ice and the boys had a snort on Sunday. But maybe it’s not possible, from the point of view of the handyman, it would be beneficial in any case.”
According to him, the second option would be to play on Friday and Saturday. “I have already proposed back to back games that we play on the Euro Hockey Tour or the World Cup and are missing in the Extra League. But it is said that it is not possible because of the sponsors, which I respect,” adds Radim Rulík.
“The training was short, but brisk. I took into account the boys from the extra league who played the match on Sunday.”
Compared to the originally announced nomination, he had to make four changes. He’s come before
David Tomasek
attacker, 28 years old

Petr Kodytek
attacker, 26 years old

The goalkeeper also had to apologize at the last moment
Josef Korenář

Philip Zadina
attacker, 24 years old
Jiří Smejkal
attacker, 27 years old

Rulík wanted to call up Abdul and M. Stránský, but both are not fit
One of them was the extra-league scoring leader
Henry Abdul
attacker, 28 years old

The head of the Czech shifter addressed i
Matej Stránský
attacker, 31 years old
” href=” Stránsky. “He would very much like to come, but he has had something with the puller for a long time and needs to rest, which I respected, because we want 100% healthy players,” he says of the Davos forward.
Michal Kunc
attacker, 24 years old
” href=” Rabbit. “We have been following him for a long time. He is quite busy in the club, he plays both power plays and weakening. He also fits us in the fact that he is a young player.” Kunec added a goalkeeper to the roster
Jakub Malek
goalkeeper, 22 years old
” href=” Málek and another forward
Radan Lenc
attacker, 33 years old

It was he who was missing at the first training session, so the junior from Karlovy Vary trained with the old man
David Varvarovsky
attacker, 20 years old
” href=” Varvarovsky. “Radan’s flight from Sweden was delayed, so we reached out for replacements so that we had a complete five fives and no one had to take turns, because it is after all training after the extra league round,” explains Rulík.
“Radan Lence’s flight from Sweden was delayed, so we reached for a replacement so that we had a full five-five and no one had to take turns.”
He is not clear about the goalkeepers yet. But nothing changes about the fact that Brno

goalkeeper, 22 years old

Jakub Malek
goalkeeper, 22 years old

Welcome to the Comedy Rink: Czech Hockey’s Latest Antics!
Ladies and gentlemen, let me tell you – it’s not just the pucks that are sliding across the ice! The Czech national hockey team has kicked off its season with a dash of flair and a sprinkle of drama. After all, what would hockey be without a few twists and turns?
Our coach, Radim Rulík, had his hands full in this chilly Karlovy Vary training hall, managing the players like a cat herding kittens! Don’t imagine warm, cozy training sessions – nooo! They traded the soft ice for a — how do we say this kindly — sub-zero circus of frozen training. “I dressed so well I didn’t even feel the cold!” Really, Radim? I’m convinced he’d be the person who buys all the thermal gear only to show off his fashionable winter gear when it’s -10°C!
But let’s break it down. The blokes recently juggled training and extra league matches like they were in some circus act! Rulík was eyeing those league games and suggested, “What if we play on Thursday and Saturday instead of Sunday, so everyone can have a proper snort after?” Honestly, Radim sounds more like a pub manager than a hockey coach! I can just picture him with a pint saying, “Play your matches on the earlier nights, lads; no one wants to miss last orders!”
Now, injuries are the grim reapers of sports, and they’ve struck Rulík’s team harder than a deflected slapshot. “I wanted to call up Abdul and Stránský, but they’re both not fit,” he lamented. Oh dear! It’s like trying to build a dream team from a box of broken Lego bricks! One even got a brace on his hand! Is that hockey or a fashion statement?
And who was Rulík’s highlight recruit? Michal Kunec from Olomouc – apparently the jewel in their crown for this season, blessed with the kind of name that you just know is going to get chanted in the arena like a Viking battle cry. They also added Jakub Malek; now, don’t get confused, we’re not talking about a new brand of fancy cheese here – he’s a goalkeeper!
But I digress! The Czech team isn’t just slinging pucks but also prepping for the big stage with the Karjala Cup. They’ve got the Swedes first on the hit list, who probably think they can just glide through like it’s a summer skating fair. But they haven’t met the fierce spirit of this Czech team just yet!
Here’s a Sneak Peek at the Weekend Schedule:
Thursday, November 7:
- 17:00 Czech Republic vs. Sweden
- 17:30 Switzerland vs. Finland
Saturday, November 9:
- 12:30 Sweden vs. Switzerland
- 16:00 Finland vs. Czech Republic
Sunday, November 10:
- 12:30 Czech Republic vs. Switzerland
- 16:00 Finland vs. Sweden
So get your jerseys ready and your cold beverages lined up! From training mishaps to proposed schedule changes, hockey in the Czech Republic promises enough material for a sitcom. It’s a waiting game now; will the Czechs emerge with the spoils, or will they find themselves on the backend of a Swedish smackdown?
In the grand theatre that is hockey, the curtain is about to rise, and I can’t wait to see how this turn of events unravels! Who knew that hockey could offer this much entertainment? Keep your sticks up and stay tuned for the wild ride ahead! Cheers! 🏒
The Czech national hockey team kicked off its new season with an initial training session in Karlovy Vary, led by coach Radim Rulík, who is gearing his squad for the upcoming Finnish Karjala Cup.
The representatives did not compete in the KV Arena, but in the adjacent training hall, where the icy conditions added an extra challenge. Coach Rulík humorously noted, “I got dressed so I didn’t even feel the cold. But the quality of the ice… I don’t know, we somehow managed it.” The training session was designed to be short yet intense, particularly as the players from the extra league had competed in a match the day before.
Rulík expressed his views on scheduling, stating he would prefer the extra league not to be played on Sundays before national team engagements. “Now maybe everyone will tear me apart for this, but I would welcome it if the games were played on Thursday and Saturday, allowing for ice repaints and giving the boys time to recharge on Sunday.” He further stated, “Maybe it’s not possible, but from the point of view of practical logistics, it would be beneficial.”
Notably, there were significant adjustments to the originally announced player roster, with four last-minute changes made prior to the training session.
Rulík wanted to call up Abdul and M. Stránský, but both are not fit. He specifically mentioned Henry Abdul from Vítkovice, the scoring leader in the extra league, saying, “He wasn’t in the first nomination, but now he would be in it.” Unfortunately, Abdul is sidelined with a hand injury, evident by him being photographed in a brace. Rulík displayed concern for the wellbeing of his players, emphasizing the importance of fielding a fully healthy squad.
Additionally, he mentioned Matej Stránský would like to join but is dealing with a persistent injury that requires rest. This attention to player health reflects Rulík’s commitment to having only those who can contribute at full capacity for national duties.
In light of the absences, Olomouc forward Michal Kunc was called up due to his solid performance at the club level. Coach Rulík highlighted Kunc’s busy role in his team, noting he participates in both power plays and short-handed situations. In a similar vein, Jakub Malek and Radan Lenc were added to the roster—a decision made necessary when Lenc’s travel delays left the team short of players for practice, prompting quick adjustments to ensure a complete five-on-five training format.
The reigning world champions are set to embark on their season with a home opener against Sweden on Thursday, followed by key matches in Helsinki against Finland and Switzerland.
