DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza Strip. — Israeli attacks against several houses in the north of the Gaza Strip early Sunday morning left at least 87 people dead or missing, the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
Another 40 people were wounded in attacks on the town of Beit Lahiya, which was one of the first targets of the Israeli ground invasion almost a year ago.
The Israeli military said it had launched a precise strike against a Hamas target.

Palestinians who fled the north at the start of the war have not been allowed to return.
On October 7, 2023, Hamas-led militants swept into Israel and killed about 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapped another 250. The Israeli offensive in Gaza has killed more than 42,000 Palestinians, according to local authorities, that do not distinguish between combatants and civilians. The war has destroyed large areas of Gaza and displaced almost 90% of its population of 2.3 million people.
