Regional League West: Five teams in the race for the winter crown

The race for the autumn championship title in the Regional League West couldn’t be more exciting: Before the next final round of the first half of the season, five teams – Peuerbach, Grieskirchen, Andorf, Bad Wimsbach and Kammer – still have the theoretical opportunity to win the winter crown. Union Peuerbach goes into the autumn final as league leaders after beating SPG Munderfing/Pfaffstätt 3-1. “With the run, our self-confidence has also increased. We want to stay at the top as long as possible,” says Peuerbach sports director Markus Mayr, whose team is visiting Sattledt on Saturday.

In terms of lost points, SV Grieskirchen would be at the top: nine of the last ten games were won. “That wasn’t necessarily to be expected after the start. With the recent victories, we have adjusted our short-term goals slightly upwards; we are eager to win the autumn championship title,” says Grieskirchen coach Siegfried Krieg. The Trattnachtalers welcome Schärding in the final spurt and will also play the catch-up game at SPG Utzenaich/Antiesenhofen a week later. If two more wins are achieved, the former Upper Austrian league team would be autumn champions.

Duel in the East

Also with one game less, the 1b team from Askö Oedt goes into the last autumn round of the Regional League East against Naarn as first. In the 7-1 win against Traun, the second Oedt team underlined that they could only beat themselves this season. “We want to be ahead at all times,” says Oedt sports director Gerald Baumgartner, who also doesn’t underestimate the competitors: “The East Regional League is even better this year. Marchtrenk is hot on our heels, St. Ulrich is also doing it “Very good. You always have to have Donau Linz on your bill anyway.”
