Tenants stop early at popular eatery in coastal town

With more than 100 years behind it, the Blue Café in Lønstrup – where there is a cinema in the winter – is a well-known eating place for both permanent residents and tourists in the summer season.

In 2022, the private company behind the building signed a contract with the brothers Malte and Pit Herold and Malthe’s fiancee, Mathine.

– They gave up before time, but there is no drama in it. It is true that we operate with five-year contracts, but there is a clause that you must terminate the contract when one season has ended, explains the director of the private limited company, John Becker.

– We have been happy for them, and they have done really well. But they have chosen to stop for family reasons, says John Becker.

According to the director, after year one, Pit Herold chose to return to his Aarhus architecture firm, and in year two, the remaining two were struck by happy circumstances with a pregnancy, so naturally they also had enough to order in year three with a small new. And increased costs for extra staff.

120 seats

Therefore, the private limited company is currently looking for who will take up the challenge and sign a new lease agreement – for the time being, the deadline is mid-November.

– But we have already received two serious inquiries, so there is peace of mind – we should probably have a new tenant ready by Easter next year, he assures.

Lønstrup Gammel Biograf – which is the company’s name – is owned by 55 shareholders, and the lease of the eatery must basically run from April to September for a five-year period.

There is room for 80 diners indoors and 40 outside.

According to the director, it is hoped that a new tenant – as was also the case with Malte, Pit and Mathine – can operate the place with a little edge, so that it can differ from more traditional eateries.

According to John Becker, they continuously try to modernize the facilities on site.

There are currently plans to raise money for more up-to-date access to the café and cinema.

**Short ⁤Interview ‌with John ⁣Becker, Director of Lønstrup Gammel Biograf**

**Interviewer:** Thank ⁣you for joining us today, John. Let’s start with the Blue Café; it has quite a history in Lønstrup.⁣ What do ‌you think sets it apart‌ from⁢ other restaurants in⁣ the area?

**John Becker:** Thank ‌you for having me. The Blue Café ⁢has been a staple in this community for over 100 years. It’s not just an eating place; it’s a gathering spot⁣ for both locals and tourists, especially during the summer season. Our unique blend of history and community-focused service really sets ⁢us ⁣apart. Plus, ‌the addition of ⁤a cinema in the winter helps keep the spirit alive year-round.

**Interviewer:** I understand that ⁢the previous operators, the Herold⁣ brothers and Mathine, decided to end their contract early. Could you share ‌more about that decision?

**John ⁤Becker:** Yes,⁣ they chose to step back for family ⁣reasons after a‍ successful run. Our‌ contracts allow for‌ termination after a season, and while it’s always a bit⁣ of a transition ‍when operators leave, we fully⁤ support their decision. They contributed greatly to the café’s success in their time here.

**Interviewer:** The café is currently looking⁢ for new tenants. ⁣How‌ is the search going, and what are you hoping to ‍find in ⁢new operators?

**John Becker:**⁣ The search is⁣ progressing well; we’ve already received two serious inquiries. We’re looking for individuals‌ who are‍ passionate about food and community, and can continue the legacy ⁣of the café. Ideally, we want someone who can bring a fresh perspective while respecting the café’s rich history.

**Interviewer:** The café has a capacity of 120 seats. How important is⁣ that for attracting new customers?

**John Becker:** Very important! With space for 80 indoors and 40 outdoors, it provides ‍ample‍ opportunity‌ for hosting events, family gatherings, and casual dining. The outdoor space,‌ in particular, is a major attraction during‍ the warmer months, allowing patrons to enjoy the stunning views of our beautiful surroundings.

**Interviewer:** ⁢Lastly, what’s your vision for ⁤the⁣ café moving forward?

**John Becker:** I ⁢envision a ‌reinvigoration of the Blue Café, keeping⁢ it relevant while honoring its history. With the right tenants, I believe we can create a‍ vibrant hub that draws people in for delicious food ‍and memorable⁢ experiences, contributing to ⁣the community and tourism in Lønstrup.

**Interviewer:** Thank you for your insights, John. We’re looking forward to seeing the next chapter ⁤of the Blue Café unfold!
