Solar system in Lahore’s stadiums: ‘Now the electricity money will be charged to the players’

Lahore In the National Hockey Stadium and the Football Stadium Solar energy Instead of paying the electricity bill of lakhs of rupees, the Punjab Sports Board is expected to get income from the installation of the system.

Under this project, in the first phase, apart from the hockey and football stadiums in Nishtar Sports Complex, the gymnasium and swimming pool area have also been completely converted to solar energy.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will formally inaugurate the new solar system at these four places.
According to Director General Punjab Sports Dr. Asif Tufail, earlier funds used to pay lakhs of rupees towards electricity bills, which will now be spent on sports competitions and training of players.
“Our offices used to use a lot of electricity throughout the day and then if there was a match in the floodlight, but now we will be able to meet the requirement with the solar system.”
He thanked the government for this project and said that NOC has been received from Nepra and net meters have also been purchased.
“We are trying to ensure that when the Prime Minister comes for the inauguration in a few days, all four solar systems are working.

‘Our hockey Stadium Running on new system since last four days. This system is meeting our daily needs in this season.’

He said that this is mainly a project of the Department of Energy, like hospitals, government and other institutions have been transferred to the solar system, similarly these four fields of ours have also been put on this system.
In my opinion, this system does not exist in any other stadium on such a large level. I cannot say if the street lights etc. of a small field are on solar.
‘The entire stadium has been solarized on a large scale for the first time. Now we will be able to sell electricity to LESCO instead of paying electricity price.’
Under this project, after Lahore, the fields of all major cities of the province will also be transferred to the solar system.
This project is under the power of the solar system of the Government of Pakistan and therefore the work of shifting other government offices to solar energy is also in progress.

**Interview with‌ Dr.⁤ Asif Tufail, Director General of Punjab Sports Board**

**Interviewer:**⁢ Thank you for joining us today, Dr. Tufail. It’s exciting to ⁤hear about the installation of the new solar energy systems at the National⁤ Hockey Stadium and the Football Stadium.⁤ Can you tell us more⁢ about this initiative?

**Dr. Asif Tufail:**⁢ Thank you for having me. ‌Yes, we are thrilled to announce that the Punjab Sports Board is transitioning to solar energy to⁤ power our‍ sports facilities. This initiative is part⁢ of a larger project aimed at reducing our electricity costs⁤ significantly, allowing⁤ us‍ to⁤ redirect those funds towards sports competitions and player training.

**Interviewer:** That’s impressive! How does this project benefit the stadiums and the athletes?

**Dr. Asif Tufail:** Previously, our offices and stadiums ‍consumed a‍ significant amount of electricity, particularly during matches held in the evening under floodlights. With the solar systems in place,‌ we will ⁤now⁣ be able ‍to meet all our energy requirements ⁢sustainably.⁤ This not ⁤only⁣ helps in cutting costs but‌ also promotes green energy practices.

**Interviewer:** What can you tell‌ us about the ⁤installation process and the solar systems themselves?

**Dr. Asif Tufail:** We have successfully completed ‌the first phase, which includes not just the hockey and football stadiums, but also the gymnasium and swimming pool area in the Nishtar Sports Complex. We received the necessary approvals⁢ from the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) and have installed net meters. Our goal is to ensure ‌that everything is functioning perfectly by the time Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurates the solar systems.

**Interviewer:** What are the ⁣future plans for this ⁤solar initiative across Punjab?

**Dr. Asif ⁣Tufail:** Once we have successfully‍ implemented these systems in Lahore, ‌we plan to expand this solar ‍initiative to major cities ⁣across Punjab. The aim is to‍ make all ⁤our sports facilities energy-efficient, ultimately benefiting ⁢our athletes and the environment.

**Interviewer:** That’s an admirable goal, Dr. Tufail. Thank ⁤you for sharing these insights with ⁣us. We look forward to⁢ seeing the positive impacts of this project on sports in Punjab.
