The incident that occurred on Friday morning in Markopoulos was unbelievable, when a 5-year-old boy was shot dead in the head outside a Roma camp.
As it turns out, the two families have a long-standing feud, which dates back to 2021. Both the victim’s family and the perpetrators are known to the authorities.

According to the STAR report, they had engaged the police in various cases, including drugs. In fact, their names are written in various files, while the father of the 5-year-old child was recently released from prison.
The alleged perpetrator whom the authorities are feverishly looking for had also lost a child who had been shot years ago. On September 2, they were at the Court of Appeal as the trial for the said shooting took place. The Roma had incidents among themselves as a result of which the trial was postponed.
“I saw my family being shot”
“In the car I had with me my wife who is 8 months pregnant, my daughter and my son. When I reduced the speed of the car, I saw right behind a white car stopping, some people getting out of it and shooting at my car. I was able to distinguish the people who shot at my car,” said the dead boy’s father to STAR.
Furthermore, the father of the deceased boy also referred to the feud that has been going on between the families for years.

The President of the Panhellenic Roma Confederation spoke of a vendetta, who spoke to Newsbomb.gr about the tragic death of a 5-year-old child from a bullet to the head while he was outside a camp.
Efthymis Dimitriou confirmed that today’s episode concerns a vendetta between the families and characteristically stated that the enmity between them “is from 2021”. Being very close to the family of the deceased 5-year-old, he revealed that “his mother thinks that her child is in critical condition in the intensive care unit”.
Regarding why the shootings started and an episode broke out between the families, Mr. Efthymiou emphasized that this is a “chronic case” and asserted that “the families have their own issues and that more details about today’s episode will be learned in the coming days.” , without announcing anything more.

Regarding whether similar incidents often occur, the President of the Panhellenic Roma Confederation said that “EL.AS knows some things” while then regarding the wider fear that prevails he stated: “We are on our guard because a lot is happening. We have families, children, shops.”
The timeline of the case
On Friday morning (01/11) a 5-year-old boy was shot dead in the head while in a car.
According to what has become known, the five-year-old was initially taken to the Markopoulos Health Center by his parents and from there accompanied by the police to Aglaia Kyriakou.
There the five-year-old could not keep himself alive and despite the superhuman efforts of the doctors, he succumbed.
Scenes of ancient tragedy unfolded outside the hospital as parents and relatives of the five-year-old boy rushed to hear news of his health progress.
According to information, members of the two families have been in conflict for several years and have been involved in three shooting incidents. In 2020, 2021, but also in 2022, with shootings outside a large supermarket in Koropi.
At the same time, the authorities have “unleashed” a manhunt to locate and arrest the perpetrators, while they have collected over twenty shell casings at the scene of the murderous ambush.

“A five (5)-year-old boy (ex.) A. (ex.) A., accompanied by a doctor from the Markopoulos Health Center, arrived today at the Emergency Department of the Hospital, via EMS at 10:45, after initial transfer to this, due to a reported head injury from a shooting in the Markopoulos area.
When he arrived at our Hospital, he was pulseless, apneic, pupils in mydriasis, without a photokinetic reflex.
Advanced resuscitation (CPR) was performed for 45 min, without response.
Time of death 11:29.
A forensic assessment (mortem, necropsy) will be carried out.”
