Vienna (OTS) –

Last week, two car drivers, an e-bike driver and a pedestrian died in traffic accidents. A serious traffic accident occurred on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, in the Steyr-Land district, Upper Austria, in which the above-mentioned e-bike handler was killed. An 84-year-old e-bike driver wanted to cross the road at the intersection of state road B and had to respect the priority of traffic crossing on state road B. The 84-year-old probably drove into the intersection without braking and was hit by a 58-year-old’s car. Despite an evasive maneuver, the e-biker was thrown with his head against the windshield of the car, sustaining such serious injuries that he died in hospital the next day. The occupants of the car were uninjured as a result of the collision. Two of the four road users who died had an accident at the weekend.

Two people each died on state roads B and municipal roads in the previous week. One traffic fatality each had to be reported in Carinthia, Lower Austria, Upper Austria and Tyrol.

The presumed main causes of the accident in one case each were alcoholization, improper speed, inattention/distraction and a right-of-way violation. One fatal accident was a solo accident and one fatality was not using a seatbelt.

From January 1st to November 3rd, 2024, there were 305 traffic deaths on the Austrian road network (provisional number). In the comparable period of 2023 there were 348 and in 2022 337.
