A dog unexpectedly bit a child while they were trick-or-treating near Judson Road, resulting in minor injuries that included a puncture wound. Emergency services promptly transported the injured child to a nearby hospital for evaluation and care, as confirmed by San Antonio police.
Recent weeks have seen KSAT report on several similar dog bite incidents, raising concerns among residents about pet safety during the busy holiday season.
Following the incident, a post detailing the dog bite circulated on Nextdoor, which led to significant distress and misinformation spreading throughout the neighborhood on the Northeast Side.
Animal Care Services acted swiftly, removing the dog two days after the Halloween night altercation.
Residents like Danielle lamented the unfortunate events, saying, “It’s terrible what happened,” emphasizing the impact such incidents have on community trust and safety.
As KSAT engaged with neighbors about the frightening incident, the dog’s owner arrived at her home and was approached by the crew seeking more information. When asked about the specifics of what transpired, she declined to speak to reporters, stating that she preferred to share her account with the police instead.
Once Animal Care Services arrived later that afternoon, they took the dog away, illustrating the seriousness of the circumstances surrounding the bite.
Currently, San Antonio police have indicated that no arrests or charges have been made, directing the matter over to Animal Care Services for thorough investigation and follow-up.
The initial report regarding the dog bite on Nextdoor turned out to be partially inaccurate, claiming the incident occurred at a different home on Independence Avenue rather than the actual location near Judson Road.
Inaccuracies in the postings caused confusion among neighborhood residents, as Danielle pointed out, “Whoever posted the post had posted it that was the first duplex before you hit Judson Road, which it’s clearly not the first duplex.”
Additionally, in the aftermath of the dog bite incident, a brick was reportedly thrown through a family’s car window, escalating tensions within the community.
“It is a big deal,” Danielle said. “But if you’re going to go further with it, make sure you have 100% correct information before you do that. Because if you don’t, stuff like this happens to people that are innocent.”
As of Saturday, ACS had not released any updates on their investigation, although they confirmed that the dog was taken from its owner as part of their ongoing assessment of the situation.
