R. Baciuška warns: what to do so that you don’t skate on the road as if you were on ice without skates | Business

The most important news about traffic and cars – in the section Gazas.lt

Professional racing driver Rokas Baciuška says that the balding is one of the most dangerous phenomena, causing a big headache not only for ordinary drivers, but also for professionals.

In the blink of an eye, he was a hair’s breadth away from disaster
The racer compares driving on bare skates to ice skating without skates.

“If you get on a slippery road – turn left, right – you won’t do anything, the car still slides. In many cases, when we hit a bumpy road, we do not become drivers, but simply passengers of an uncontrolled car. However, if you feel that the car is skidding, I would advise you to try to turn to the side as much as you can, so that the wheels at least touch the sand or gravel a little and gain traction”, says the professional.

Although R. Bačiuska is a three-time world rally raid champion and an open-minded racer, he himself was just a hair’s breadth away from an accident due to the slush that had formed on the roads of Lithuania.

“You can be all you want to be a tough driver or even a racer, but it’s difficult to escape from a balderdash.” Just recently, while driving on a very slippery road, I tried to turn right, but the car did not listen and drove straight, the wheels did not turn due to the existing bare road.

Fortunately, there were no cars in front of me at the time, because my car started to skid – I narrowly avoided an accident,” recalls the professional driver, adding that the most important thing he recommends to drivers to take care of is to avoid similar situations and major losses. before the start of winter – studded tires and CASCO insurance.

“During the cold season of the year, it is especially important to carefully follow traffic rules, observe the speed limit and take out CASCO insurance. Due to the complicated conditions on the roads, I would definitely advise all drivers to keep a safe distance of 60 m. If you are driving on a slippery road and you see that the car is sliding, try to turn to the side and hook at least a patch of gravel road, to look for traction with the road surface.

If you come to an intersection and try to brake, but you see that the car doesn’t stop because of a bumpy road, I would advise you to turn and try to find an angle that would cause the least amount of damage to the car in the event of an accident and, of course, all the passengers and the driver would remain healthy,” says the racer.

It is recommended to follow the weather forecast and renew the tires every few years

Tomas Lizūnas, head of transport insurance products of the insurance technology company “Balcia Insurance SE” branch in Lithuania, also agrees with the racer, who says that CASCO insurance is needed more than ever in the cold season. Because, according to him, there are usually more traffic accidents in winter than in summer.

“CASCO insurance is a responsible decision for all drivers, regardless of their experience on the road. Half of CASKO insurance policies are sold in the cold season of the year. As the weather conditions become more unpredictable, the number of accidents increases, and this type of insurance protects drivers from additional worries, especially in the event of an accident. In case of an insured event, the insurer will recommend a car service and compensate for the damage caused,” says T. Lizūnas.

A few more important tips for the racer

R. Baciuška also shares a few more important tips that he recommends every driver to take into account.

“First of all, I would advise you to renew your winter tires every two years. If you drive with tires that are 3-4 years old, there is a high probability that they no longer grip the road so well, so with such tires there is a much greater chance of slipping and causing a car accident,” says R. Baciuška.

The professional driver also advises the drivers not to forget to fill up the stock of winter window fluid and check the brakes.
“Before the start of winter, it is best to visit specialists who will check whether the car is suitable for driving in the cold season. Of course, I advise you to carefully follow the weather forecast.

If you see that drizzle or rain is planned for the evening, and in the morning we will have sub-zero temperatures – I would generally recommend leaving the car at home, avoiding unnecessary trips that could become dangerous. Especially when driving on country roads, which are not always paved,” says R. Baciuška.

**Interview ⁤Segment on Winter ‌Driving⁤ Safety with Professional Racing Driver Rokas Baciuška**

**Editor:** Welcome, Rokas Baciuška! Thank⁢ you for joining us to discuss the pressing issue of winter driving safety. You’ve‍ had firsthand experience both on the professional racing circuit and on ⁣everyday icy roads. What are some of the biggest challenges you ⁢face when driving in these conditions?

**Rokas Baciuška:** Thank you for having me! Winter driving can be incredibly tricky due⁢ to phenomena like balding roads, which create significant challenges not just for ordinary drivers,⁣ but for professionals as well. When the road is slick, it feels like you’re on ice skates without actually having them. You can steer left or right, but often, the car just slides uncontrollably.

**Editor:** That sounds alarming! How should‍ drivers react if they find themselves in that skidding situation?

**Rokas Baciuška:** If your car starts to skid, it’s essential to stay ‍calm. Try to turn the wheel in the direction ‍you want to go, ⁣and aim for a spot where the wheels might find some ‌traction, like gravel or sand. Gathering traction gives you a better chance of regaining control. And remember, maintaining a significant distance—at least 60 meters—from the vehicle in front is crucial during winter.

**Editor:** That’s great advice. You mentioned your close call on a slippery road. What preventive measures‍ can drivers take to avoid⁤ such situations altogether?

**Rokas Baciuška:** Always prepare your vehicle before the winter season. Invest in studded tires and ensure you have CASCO insurance. CASCO is incredibly important during winter months, as accidents are statistically more frequent. Furthermore, always stay updated with weather⁤ forecasts and adjust your driving ⁣accordingly.

**Editor:** Tomas Lizūnas from Balcia Insurance echoed the importance of CASCO insurance. Why do you think it’s particularly relevant this ‌time of year?

**Rokas Baciuška:** The unpredictable weather means that even experienced drivers can find themselves in troublesome situations. CASCO insurance provides peace of ⁣mind and financial protection in case of an accident. Knowing that you’re covered can alleviate some of⁤ the stress winter driving brings.

**Editor:** Excellent points! Do you have any final tips for our viewers as they prepare for winter driving?

**Rokas Baciuška:** Yes, of course! Always double-check your vehicle’s brakes and lights, drive at‍ a reduced speed, and never hesitate to adjust your driving habits to fit road conditions. Remember, safety should⁤ always come first.

**Editor:** Thank you, Rokas! Your insights are invaluable as we navigate the winter roads⁣ ahead. Stay safe out there!

**Rokas Baciuška:** Thank you for having‌ me!
