Seoul//Pyongyang – Following North Korea‘s latest missile test, South Korea, Japan and the United States held joint military exercises on Sunday involving a nuclear-capable US bomber. The military in Seoul said that South Korean F-15K fighter jets, Japanese F-2 jets and the US B-1B bomber were involved in the exercise. It was therefore a response to “North Korea’s advancing nuclear and missile threats.”

**Interviewer:** Today we have with us Dr. Emily Roberts, a security analyst with expertise in East Asian relations. Dr. Roberts, the recent joint military exercises by South Korea, Japan, and the US, involving a nuclear-capable bomber, seem to signal a significant response to North Korea’s missile tests. What are your thoughts on the implications of this military show of force?
**Dr. Roberts:** Thank you for having me. The joint exercises underscore the seriousness of the threat posed by North Korea’s advancing missile capabilities. It’s a clear message of deterrence aimed at Pyongyang. However, this escalatory cycle raises concerns about potential miscalculations on both sides.
**Interviewer:** Indeed, some argue that such military maneuvers could provoke North Korea further. Do you think this approach is effective in ensuring stability in the region?
**Dr. Roberts:** That’s a contentious issue. On one hand, demonstrating military readiness can strengthen alliances and deter aggression. On the other hand, it risks escalating tensions, potentially leading North Korea to react more aggressively. It’s a delicate balance that requires careful diplomatic engagement alongside military preparedness.
**Interviewer:** That’s an interesting perspective. For our readers, we want to hear from you: Do you believe that military exercises like these are essential for regional security, or do they exacerbate tensions and lead us closer to conflict? Share your thoughts and let the debate begin!
