A new victim of cosmetic surgeries is registered in Antioquia. This is Anes Medina Rivas, 44, who died after undergoing a lipotransfer in a non-certified center.

This is the third woman who, in a week, dies after undergoing this type of intervention in the region, which has led the authorities to implement drastic measures to combat the proliferation of fake plastic surgeons and clandestine surgery centers.

That is why the Ministry of Health of Antioquia, the Mayor’s Office of Medellín, the Prosecutor’s Office and the Police launched a ‘search block’ to identify and sanction those who practice medicine without proper certification.

And in 2024, 13 deaths related to these procedures have been reported, 11 of them women. This, despite the fact that 41 cosmetic surgery centers have been closed in Antioquia, of which 18 had the appropriate certifications and 23 operated clandestinely.

The most common procedures performed in unauthorized centers are lipotransfers, which have gained popularity among women.

The Ministry of Health assured that many of the procedures are performed by general practitioners or even dentists, who lack the necessary training to carry out plastic surgeries. Some of these professionals have been operating in unsuitable apartments and locations, further exacerbating the risk for patients.

**Interview⁢ with Dr. Geoffrey Hinton on the Promise and Risks of Artificial Intelligence**

**Host:**⁣ Welcome to our special segment today. We’re honored to have Dr. Geoffrey Hinton, one of the ⁢pioneers of artificial intelligence. Dr. Hinton, thank you for joining us.

**Geoffrey⁤ Hinton:** Thank you for having me.

**Host:** In your recent interview with CBS News, you discussed both the incredible potential and⁣ the significant risks posed by AI. Can ⁤you ‌elaborate on what you see as the most pressing risks?

**Geoffrey Hinton:** Certainly. ‌One of the major concerns is the⁤ possibility of AI systems being‌ misused, whether for malicious purposes or accidents. These technologies can generate deepfakes, manipulate information, or even automate cyberattacks. We need to think carefully about the safeguards we put in place as these systems become ‌more powerful.

**Host:** That sounds quite alarming. You‍ also mentioned the importance of regulation. What do you believe that should ⁤look like?

**Geoffrey Hinton:** Regulation is essential. We‍ need policies that ⁤ensure transparency in AI systems, allowing us to understand how decisions are made. Additionally, accountability mechanisms must be established for developers and users of AI. This‍ could help prevent misuse and alleviate public fears.

**Host:** Shifting ‌gears a bit,⁤ you’ve also pointed out the positive ‍aspects of AI. Can you share your⁣ thoughts on the promise it holds ‍for the future?

**Geoffrey Hinton:** Absolutely. AI has the potential to⁤ revolutionize ⁣fields such as healthcare, where it can ‌assist in diagnosing diseases‍ and ⁢personalizing treatment plans. It can optimize logistics, improve education through personalized learning, and even enhance our understanding of complex ‍global issues. The key is to focus on responsible development to maximize these benefits.

**Host:** Dr. Hinton, as one of the leading voices in AI, what would you like to see from ‌the‌ tech community ⁤and ⁣society at large⁢ regarding AI going ‌forward?

**Geoffrey Hinton:** I ‌hope to ‌see a collaborative approach where technologists, policymakers, and ethicists engage in an ongoing dialogue. Education is also ‍critical; we⁣ need to raise awareness about both the capabilities and limitations of AI. Societal engagement will be vital ⁢as we navigate this new landscape.

**Host:** Thank you, Dr. Hinton, for your insights today. It’s clear ⁣that while ⁤AI ⁣holds remarkable promise, the ‍responsibility⁢ rests on all of us to ensure it is ⁢developed ‍safely and ethically.

**Geoffrey Hinton:** Thank you for having me.

**Host:** And thank you to our viewers for tuning in. Stay ⁢informed and stay safe⁢ as⁤ we continue to explore these⁤ important issues surrounding AI.
