The victim of a years-long vendetta between two families was the 5-year-old boy who was killed in a murderous ambush attack in Markopoulos, outside a Roma camp, on Friday morning (01/11).
The father of the boy, who at the age of five paid with his life for the feud between the two Roma families, reportedly told the police that he was able to distinguish the people who shot at his car.
“In the car I had with me my wife who is 8 months pregnant, my 7-year-old daughter and my 5-year-old son. Then, when I reduced the speed of the car, I saw right behind a white car stop, some people get out of it and shoot at my car. I was able to distinguish the people who shot at my car,” the father reportedly said.
The two families have a long-standing feud, which dates back to 2021. Both the victim’s family and the perpetrators are known to the authorities. They had engaged the police on various cases, including drugs. In fact, their names are written in various files, while the father of the 5-year-old child was recently released from prison.
In addition, the father also referred to the long-standing feud that the two families have, and in particular he is reported to have said: “what I know is that A… with his family has a feud with my cousins who are also called Z… as Z is also the Greek elements of A’s family…”.
“There is no camera footage”
According to OPEN, the perpetrators used two weapons, a 9-gauge and a 45-gauge. The men of EL.AS. since yesterday they have been trying to put together the puzzle of the vendetta in order to reach the traces of the perpetrators.
According to the same source, the family of the 5-year-old, together with the family of one of the perpetrators, seem to have had two more incidents in the past with the men of EL.AS. to appreciate that the death card was a continuation of them.
The press representative of HELLA, Konstantina Dimoglidou, speaking on the morning show “Tora Mazi”, said that the place of the murder was chosen as it is a dirt road, from which the police cannot have an image and collect footage from cameras to see the route of the perpetrators. In fact, according to her, the police are looking for specific people, as names have fallen on the “table”.
The 25 shell casings found at the scene make the police believe that the perpetrators wanted to kill the entire family that was in the vehicle and did not care at all about the fact that their victim is a small child who although they saw sitting in the back of the vehicle car, they chose to shoot first through the rear windshield.
The 5-year-old was initially taken to the Markopoulos Health Center, but due to the seriousness of his condition, it was deemed necessary to take him to a hospital. He was transported by ambulance to the “Aglaia Kyriakou” Children’s Hospital and despite the efforts of the doctors to revive him with cardiopulmonary resuscitation, they ultimately failed.
“The child was taken with no pulse and apneic – He was given CPR for 45 minutes”
As stated in the announcement of the “Aglaia Kyriakou” Children’s Hospital, the little boy was taken without a pulse and superhuman efforts were made by the medical staff to “bring him back”, performing CPR for 45 minutes, but to no avail.
The hospital’s announcement:

**Interview with Konstantina Dimoglidou, Press Representative of HELLA**
**Interviewer:** Thank you for joining us today, Ms. Dimoglidou. The recent tragic death of a 5-year-old boy in Markopoulos has raised significant concerns within the community. Can you provide us with some background on the incident?
**Dimoglidou:** Certainly. The boy was killed in a targeted attack that appeared to be related to a long-standing feud between two Roma families. This vendetta has roots going back to 2021, and unfortunately, the child’s death is a horrific manifestation of this ongoing conflict.
**Interviewer:** That’s heartbreaking. What can you tell us about the father’s account of what happened during the attack?
**Dimoglidou:** The father has provided a very detailed statement. He mentioned that he was driving with his wife, who is eight months pregnant, their 7-year-old daughter, and the 5-year-old victim when gunmen emerged from a white car and opened fire on them. He reported that he could identify the attackers, indicating that this was indeed a targeted ambush.
**Interviewer:** It sounds like a distressing situation for the family. Has this feud resulted in previous police involvement?
**Dimoglidou:** Yes, both families have a history with the authorities, particularly in relation to drug-related incidents. There have been multiple interactions with law enforcement prior to this tragic event. The police are aware of the ongoing tensions and the parties involved, which complicates the investigation.
**Interviewer:** Investigations seem pivotal in situations like these. However, I understand that there are challenges in gathering evidence, especially in this case. Can you elaborate on that?
**Dimoglidou:** Indeed, the location of the attack plays a critical role in the investigation. It occurred on a dirt road, which lacks surveillance cameras. This absence of footage makes it difficult for the police to trace the assailants or validate the father’s observations. They are now piecing together the events leading up to the attack to apprehend those responsible.
**Interviewer:** What steps are the authorities taking following this incident?
**Dimoglidou:** The police are actively looking for specific individuals connected to this feud, as they have identifiable names. They are also investigating past incidents between the families to understand the full context of the violence. However, the lack of physical evidence from surveillance footage remains a significant obstacle.
**Interviewer:** Thank you, Ms. Dimoglidou, for sharing these insights. It is crucial to stay informed about the situation and support the affected communities in their time of grief.
**Dimoglidou:** Thank you for having me. It’s essential that we address these issues and work towards preventing further violence in our communities.
