MEMBER of Commission I DPR RI from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) Sukamta faction emphasized that Indonesia must encourage the United Nations (UN) to take firm action against Israel for human rights violations and alleged apartheid that occurred in Palestine.

This statement responds to the report of the UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in the Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, who stated that Israel practices brutal and sadistic apartheid against Palestinians.

“In fact, the situation occurring in Palestine is a real form of very serious human rights violations. Israel has implemented an apartheid system that clearly oppresses the rights of the Palestinian people, who continue to experience increasingly worsening pressure and violence every day. “This report from the UN should be a trigger for countries, including Indonesia, to build stronger international solidarity,” he said, Friday (1/11).

Francesca Albanese in her report said, “Israel is practicing Apartheid.” He also added that Israel’s 57-year occupation of the Palestinian territories is an action against international law, which should not be considered legitimate by UN member states.

“Israel must immediately dismantle its occupation, stop illegal settlements and compensate the Palestinian people for the suffering they have experienced,” Albanese said in a statement on social media. X (formerly Twitter).

The deputy chairman of the DPR RI PKS faction also highlighted that the situation in Palestine demands more concrete action from various parties, including the Indonesian government.

“Indonesia as a country that upholds human rights and is a strong supporter of Palestinian independence must be more assertive in international forums. We need to increase diplomacy and gather support from other countries so that the UN imposes sanctions on Israel for its apartheid practices.”

As a member of the DPR RI who also represents the PKS faction, Sukamta invited the Indonesian government to immediately push for an independent investigation under the UN which aims to end human rights violations that occur in Palestine.

“If the UN remains passive, it will be the Palestinian people who suffer. “We ask that the UN immediately follow up on this report with concrete steps,” he stressed.

This report by Francesca Albanese is an important reminder to the international community of the need for collective action to ensure respect for the rights of the Palestinian people and support peace in the region. Indonesia is expected to play its role as one of the countries that consistently supports Palestine and encourages the UN to act more forcefully. (D-3)
