Caribes de Anzoátegui could not hit the right shots against Cardenales de Lara’s pitching and fell this Thursday with a score of 5-2 at the Antonio Herrera Gutiérrez stadium in Barquisimeto.
Although La Tribu had eight hits and the Red Birds seven, it was the locals who were able to materialize the offensive opportunities they had to add their ninth victory of the campaign, which represented the eighth defeat for the aborigines.
Twilight starter Jimmy Endersby had a great outing in which he completed five and two-thirds innings, allowing just three hits and striking out four opponents to win the award. The recently acquired Danry Vásquez and the Cuban Rangel Ravelo were in charge of chartering the five local stripes.
Larense power
The Cardenales’ first run came in the third inning, after a hit by Rangel Ravelo to center field, off Emerson Martínez’s deliveries, to drive in Gorkys Hernández.
In the fifth inning, Danry Vásquez brought out his power against reliever Yeizo Campos and hit a two-run home run, with which Hernández stepped on the plate again.
Ravelo also showed his power and blew the fence between the left and center fields in front of Rafael Marcano, to boost Vásquez himself and make the score 5-0.
Those led by Morgan Ensberg wasted a couple of opportunities in which they had two men in circulation and it was not until the eighth inning when they were able to break the shutout, after an unstoppable RBI by Carlos Mendoza that sent Andruw Monasterio to the plate.
In the ninth inning Luis Sardiñas hit a four-corner hit (the third of the season for him) against Edwin Escobar, but the twilight pitcher recovered and achieved the Larense victory.
Jimmy Endersby scored the victory (1-0) and Emerson Martínez the defeat (0-2). Danry Vásquez went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, two RBIs and the home run, while Rangel Ravelo finished 2-for-4 with home runs, one run scored and three RBIs.
