The debacle in Liguria is the symptom of a people who now feel betrayed. Or just the latest disaster of a 5 Star Movement that no longer seems to recognize itself even in the mirror, melted like snow in the sun by the Draghi government onwards, under the effect of an inexorable crisis. Giuseppe Conte seemed to be the solution to all the worries. Over time, however, it turned into the number one problem of the party’s founder, Beppe Grillo. “For Conte it is certainly the most complicated moment of his management”, admits the journalist Fabrizio Roncone, who then continues in his 360 degree analysis of the period of extreme fragility that the creature born from the waste of ‘Vaffa Day’ is going through: “For For the Movement, this is a key step, in the sense that if Grillo really were to – as it now seems in fact – let go of his project, it risks evaporating.”

“If Grillo gives up…” –

In short, today the Five Star Movement looks a lot like a boat in full storm, taking on water everywhere, with two captains arguing over the rudder without resolving anything. If possible, even worsening the situation, and the results have been seen in all the latest elections, whether European or regional. “Let’s be clear, if Conte is happy with it, he can still keep the Movement going a little,” claims the special correspondent of Corriere della Sera during the episode of Tagada, a La7 broadcast, hosted by Tiziana Panella.

M5S, Grillo attacks: People die betrayed by the sheep. But Conte carries on

As in a romantic relationship, when one member falters, the other inevitably suffers. And the same risks happening to the Democratic Party, embroiled in the center of a struggle between the centrists and the leader of the 5 Stars in the so-called “broad field of journalistic derivation”, says Roncone. “Now the PD secretariat must decide what to do with Conte, because the problem of Liguria was clear, he refused to sit down with Matteo Renzi. Do I take orders from Conte, or do it on my own? This is the political reflection that needs to be done in the centre-left.” Then a final touch of sarcasm: “Granted that Conte didn’t get 30% in Liguria, but 4.6%, just his intimates voted for him.”

**Interview: Current State of the Five Star Movement**

**Interviewer:**‌ Good afternoon, Fabrizio Roncone. Thank you for joining us today ⁢to discuss the Five Star Movement and its current challenges.

**Fabrizio Roncone:** Good afternoon, thanks for having me.

**Interviewer:** Let’s dive right in. You’ve characterized the Five Star Movement’s troubles ⁢as akin to a boat in a storm. Can you elaborate on what you mean by that?

**Fabrizio Roncone:** Absolutely. The situation‌ feels chaotic, with leadership disputes and a lack of clear direction. Giuseppe Conte, who many initially saw as a potential solution, now appears to be one of the key issues‌ affecting the party’s coherence. There’s a palpable sense of betrayal among ‍supporters, especially⁤ after the transitions that followed the Draghi‌ government.

**Interviewer:** You mentioned betrayal. How is that sentiment affecting the party’s support base?

**Fabrizio Roncone:** It’s significant. Many supporters feel disillusioned by the party’s shift away from its founding principles.‌ The original movement that gained traction during Beppe Grillo’s ‘Vaffa Day’ has diluted over time, leading to some members questioning their allegiance. This has resulted in declining votes, ⁢as seen in recent elections.

**Interviewer:** It seems that Grillo’s role is also crucial here. What would happen if⁤ he were to disengage from the party’s future?

**Fabrizio Roncone:** If Grillo, the founder, were to step back completely, it could be detrimental. His vision is central to the movement’s identity. Without his influence, ⁤there’s a risk that the party could fragment further, losing the core ⁢essence that attracted⁤ its initial support.

**Interviewer:** With these‍ internal struggles, do you⁣ think that Conte‍ still has the support‍ needed to keep the movement afloat?

**Fabrizio Roncone:** He might manage to maintain a semblance of stability for a while longer, but⁢ without a clear strategy and unity within the party, it’s only a temporary fix. The ongoing electoral losses highlight an urgent need ⁣for reevaluation and stronger ⁣leadership.

**Interviewer:** In your view, what needs to happen for the Five Star Movement to recover?

**Fabrizio Roncone:** They must reunite around a clear set‍ of values and goals. Open communication and transparency with their base are ‌essential. They must address the concerns of their supporters if they hope to restore trust and regain lost ground.

**Interviewer:** Thank you, Fabrizio, for your insights. It will⁢ be interesting to see how the Five Star Movement navigates these turbulent waters.

**Fabrizio Roncone:** Thank you for ‍having me. Let’s hope the movement can rediscover itself soon.
