Kingwood, TX – HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood is excited to share the appointment of Adrian Moreno as the new chief operating officer (COO) for the facility, with the effective date set for November 18, 2024. Bringing a wealth of expertise and a commendable history of leadership in healthcare, Moreno has most recently held the position of COO and ethics and compliance officer at HCA Houston Healthcare Tomball, where he made significant contributions to the institution’s success.
During his impactful tenure at HCA Houston Healthcare Tomball, Moreno showcased exceptional leadership that resulted in substantial EBITDA growth from 2021 to 2023. He played a pivotal role in implementing operational strategies that led to increased volumes in several key areas: elective surgery, joint and spine procedures, and cardiovascular interventions. One of his notable achievements was the expansion of the bariatric surgery program, culminating in the hospital receiving the esteemed Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) Comprehensive Center Accreditation.
As the executive sponsor for the Orthopedic Joint and Spine Programs, Moreno’s strategic direction resulted in remarkable growth in both total joint and orthopedic spine volumes within 2024. His adept leadership in the cardiovascular service line significantly boosted the number of cardiac catheterization procedures performed, all while ensuring that the highest standards of patient safety and quality were met.
Moreno’s unwavering commitment to excellence is further evidenced by his remarkable achievement of a zero percent surgical site infection (SSI) rate in 2023, paired with a striking increase in employee engagement scores across two years.
Prior to his previous role at HCA Houston Healthcare Tomball, he served as assistant COO at HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood, spearheading initiatives that included a $40 million capital expansion and major hospital infrastructure improvements, demonstrating his capability to elevate healthcare facilities. His impressive background also encompasses serving as division director of project management within the HCA Gulf Coast Division and working as a performance improvement manager at Ernst & Young LLP.
A proud U.S. Army veteran, Moreno’s experience as a battalion engineer operations officer during Operation Iraqi Freedom honed his exceptional leadership and crisis management skills—assets that have been instrumental in his healthcare career.
Moreno holds a master’s degree in healthcare administration from Trinity University and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the United States Military Academy at West Point. Additionally, he is a distinguished graduate of both the HCA Executive Development Program and U.S. Army Ranger School, further strengthening his qualifications for his new role.
“We are thrilled to welcome Adrian back to HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood,” stated John Corbeil, CEO of HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood. “His extensive experience and proven leadership will be invaluable as we continue to enhance the quality of care we provide to our community.”
