Lorca with rap and the “magician” dance

Thanks to the new project of the Children’s Theater of DIPETHE Patras “Where to run Kristobita you won’t get Rosita”, an adaptation of “The Beans of Katsipora” by Federico García Lorca, which is written and directed by Yiannis Kalatzopoulos, her visits to her hometown was frequent, for the needs of the tests, as she herself signs the choreography.

Katerina Andriopoulou speaks to the newspaper “Peloponniso” about the show, which premieres on Saturday (9:00 p.m.) at Epikentro and about the benefits of art for children.

THE SHOW

I love Lorca very much and with my team X-ART I had uploaded “The magic of the butterfly” in the past, so I was very happy to choreograph his work again. In fact, the director has put a modern touch, adding rap music, to the original composition of Dimitris Lekkas, because we wanted it to be even “closer” to what children can hear.

THE COOPERATION

The actors are amazingwith special abilities in kinesiology, so I had very good “material” and everything went great in the rehearsals. OR biggest challenge for me was in the kinesiology of Cristobitawhich is special, as is that of the Mosquito and Figaro. However, everything worked very well and I am completely satisfied with the result.

CHANCE THEATER FOR CHILDREN

I founded the dance group X-Art and I staged works for children, which were embraced by critics and the Ministry of Culture. The aim was through these works to attract the interest of the boys, so that they learn to watch dance as an independent art.

TABOO

Unfortunately, for parents it is still taboo for boys to take up dancing. Of course, this mentality has changed quite a bit, compared to the past, but at the Keratsiniou-Drapetsonas Art School, where I teach, the percentage of boys does not exceed 20%-30%.

ART AND VIOLENCE

As children begin to become familiar with and comfortable with their bodies, they can express themselves. OR art cultivates, raises awareness, develops imagination, creativity, mitigates the violent behaviors that are on the rise today. With the new year I will start at the Olvio theater a new educational program for teenagers, on the topic of violence in schools, which will lead to a performance and is subsidized by the Ministry of Culture.

PATRA

When I had X-ART, I had tried to present our works in Patraswhich I love very much, since this is where I was born, grew up, this is where my family lives, but my efforts were unsuccessful. Therefore, I am very happy that now I have been given the opportunity to work with the DIPETHE of my city.

**Interview with Katerina Andriopoulou: Choreographer ⁢of “Where to run Kristobita you won’t get Rosita”**

**Editor:** Katerina, your adaptation of Federico García Lorca’s work⁤ is exciting! Can ⁣you tell us what inspired you to take on ⁣”The Beans⁣ of Katsipora”?

**Katerina Andriopoulou:** I love Lorca very ⁤much; his stories and themes resonate with me deeply. My team, X-ART, previously adapted his piece “The Magic of the Butterfly,” ⁢and it was such a rewarding⁣ experience that I‌ was thrilled to choreograph his work again. This time, we aimed to make it more relatable for⁣ children by incorporating modern elements like rap music into Dimitris Lekkas’ original composition.

**Editor:** That sounds intriguing! How has‍ the collaboration with the actors shaped the performance?

**Katerina:** ‌The actors have been amazing! Many of them possess special abilities in kinesiology, which provided me⁢ with⁣ an excellent foundation for⁤ choreography. The ⁢biggest challenge was adapting the unique kinesiology of ⁢characters like Cristobita and Figaro, but we worked closely together,⁤ and the rehearsals went‌ beautifully.

**Editor:** Your dedication to introducing children to the arts is evident. Can you explain what led you to start the dance group X-Art?

**Katerina:** I founded X-Art with the goal of engaging children through dance⁢ and encouraging them‌ to view it as an‍ independent form of art. It’s rewarding to see our works embraced by critics and even the Ministry of Culture, as it highlights the importance of arts in childhood development.

**Editor:** You mentioned that there’s still a societal taboo around boys participating in dance. How do you see this changing?

**Katerina:** Yes, ‍unfortunately, it’s still ⁤considered taboo for many‍ parents. However, I’ve noticed that the mentality is gradually shifting. In my classes at the Keratsiniou-Drapetsonas Art School, the percentage of boys is slowly ‌increasing, though it still remains between 20%-30%. Education and exposure to the arts are key in breaking these stereotypes.

**Editor:** ⁤what do you believe is the role of art in child development, especially in terms of addressing issues like violence?

**Katerina:** Art plays a crucial ‍role in allowing children to express their emotions and experiences. By engaging with the arts, they can explore complex themes in a safe environment. It fosters empathy, creativity, and critical thinking, which are essential in countering issues like violence. ⁤I hope that through our work, children can find solace and empowerment in the beauty of art.

**Editor:** Thank you, Katerina, for sharing your insights and passion for the arts! ⁣We look forward to seeing “Where to run Kristobita you won’t get Rosita” at Epikentro.

**Katerina:** Thank you! I’m excited for everyone to experience it!
