Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – A mysterious figure resembling a human was seen in Antarctica. Known as the Ningen, this creature has become a well-known legend and has reportedly appeared several times in the region.
Ningen is described as having a giant body, reaching 30 meters in height, having smooth and white skin, similar to the legendary creature that lives in snowy areas, the Yeti.
This creature is said to be able to walk on both legs, has arms and 5 fingers on each hand. Several times it was reported that the creature appeared.
One of them was in February 1992, when a Chilean fishing boat arrived in the waters of the Drake Strait at the southern tip of Argentina near the northern tip of the Antarctic continent.
A sailor saw the appearance of Ningen smoking on the port side of the ship. A dark shadow could be seen under the water approaching the surface and swimming quickly towards the ship.
When approaching, the Ningen is seen with white skin and two strong front legs or fins. These fins sway rapidly. The object also has a head with a human-like face.
The sailors immediately screamed in fear and called ‘sea monsters’. The creature immediately dived into the ocean.
But the crew of the other ship did not believe the sailor’s story. They said it was likely that what they saw was an Antarctic killer whale coming out of the water to breathe.
Ningen was again reported to be seen in 2022. The story comes from a Japanese expedition team who was snowbound and stayed in a camp to record the data they collected.
While at the camp, they felt a strong vibration in the ice beneath their feet. When peering through the window there was a figure measuring 30 meters.
“I saw a vague and huge figure in the depths of the ice and snow. It had human-like limbs and was more than 30 meters tall,” said an expedition team member.
The creature moved quickly and seemed attracted to the light from the campsite. Then the research team turned off all light sources and when it got dark the creature circled the campsite as if looking for something and 10 minutes later was gone.
Upon returning to Japan, the researchers submitted videos and photos of the suspected Ningen creature to the relevant departments. A number of images were eventually leaked onto the internet.
Meanwhile, in November 2017, Japan’s MU magazine also mentioned the existence of mysterious creatures in Antarctica. Several people also tried to take videos while capturing Ningen’s findings via Google Maps, even though it looked like a dolphin.

Let’s Talk About the Ningen: The Antarctic Mystery!
Gather ’round, folks, because I’m about to take you on an Antarctic adventure that sounds like the plot of a sci-fi B-movie!
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – A mysterious figure resembling a human was seen in Antarctica, a creature so elusive it’s becoming more famous than some reality TV stars. Meet the Ningen!
The Legend of the Ningen
So, what exactly is this Ningen? Imagine a giant, 30-meter-tall being with smooth white skin. Think of the Yeti, but instead of a hiding place in the snowy Himalayas, this bad boy calls the icy seas of Antarctica home. And yes, it walks on two legs and has five fingers on each handy-dandy appendage, just like us! What a coincidence!
A Sailor’s Hair-Raising Encounter
Let’s rewind to February 1992. A Chilean fishing boat sailing through the treacherous Drake Strait witnessed something truly bizarre. A sailor, probably still half-asleep and dreaming of mermaids, suddenly spotted the Ningen smoking on the port side (I mean, who else smokes on a fishing boat?). What a sight! The creature, emerging from the depths, looked like a cross between a human and Shamu!
Upon realizing what they were seeing, the sailors erupted in a screaming match, probably calling out “sea monsters” and wondering what kind of sushi they might catch next! The creature, clearly having no interest in joining the party, dove back into the watery abyss. And, of course, the other ship’s crew couldn’t believe the tales. “Just an orca!” they shouted. Right, because nothing says ‘normal’ like claiming a 30-meter creature is an oversized fish.
The 2022 Spectacle
Fast-forward to 2022, where a Japanese expedition found itself snowed in. It’s hard enough to focus on research when you’re cold, hungry, and mildly concerned about rogue sea monsters circling you. A powerful vibration beneath their feet had everyone reaching for their cameras, but instead of capturing babies smiling, they spotted a gigantic, vague figure doing the limbo beneath the ice. Human-like limbs and that same impressive height? The Ningen strikes again!
Intrigued by the lights from the campsite, this mysterious giant was the party crasher no one invited but everyone sure wanted to document. The researchers dimmed the lights in true horror movie style and watched as it prowled around looking for… snacks? Perhaps it was just checking out its Instagram feed! After an adventurous ten minutes, it vanished into thin air like that other ‘superstar’ from the 90s.
What’s the Scoop Online?
Via tales shared online, the Ningen continues to fuel fascination. Japanese MU magazine kicked off conversations about the creature in 2017, claiming others had spotted mysterious figures in the Antarctic snow, but whether they were Ningen or simply aquatic figments of imagination is still up for debate. Google Maps even entered the fray, as some internet sleuths attempted to find “the ‘dolphin’ of Antarctica.” A bit of a stretch, but hey, a detective’s stubbornness knows no bounds!
Final Thoughts
As we continue to explore the icy realms of Antarctica, it seems the hunt for the Ningen will not end anytime soon. Will it serve as proof that something spectacular lies beyond the normal? Or is it merely a concoction of bored sailors with too much time on their hands? Either way, keep your eyes peeled—and your lights dimmed—because the Ningen could be lurking just beneath the waves!
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the legend of the Ningen: part horror story, part fantastical comedy. Now, who’s up for a trip to Antarctica?
**Interview with Marine Cryptids Expert Dr. Maya Tanaka on the Ningen of Antarctica**
**Interviewer:** Welcome, Dr. Tanaka! Thank you for joining us today to discuss the mysterious Ningen. Can you provide our audience with a brief description of this enigmatic creature?
**Dr. Tanaka:** Thank you for having me! The Ningen is a fascinating creature reported to inhabit the icy waters of Antarctica. It is described as an enormous humanoid figure, approximately 30 meters in length, with smooth, white skin that resembles a human in shape. Witnesses often report it walking on two legs, sporting human-like arms and hands with five fingers, which adds to its enigmatic allure.
**Interviewer:** That sounds remarkable! What sparked interest in the Ningen, and how did these sightings gain traction among the public?
**Dr. Tanaka:** The allure of the Ningen really took off after several sightings were reported, starting with a notable event in February 1992 involving a Chilean fishing boat. The sailors described an encounter with a massive creature, leading them to scream in fear, believing they had seen a “sea monster.” Such firsthand accounts, combined with more recent sightings by a Japanese expedition team in 2022, have kept people’s curiosity alive. The visual evidence, including leaked photos and videos, has further propelled the legend of the Ningen into popular culture.
**Interviewer:** Speaking of evidence, what do you think about the credibility of the sightings and the evidence collected so far?
**Dr. Tanaka:** It’s a mixed bag. While many eyewitness accounts are compelling, skepticism remains high, especially from the scientific community. For example, some have dismissed the sightings as being misidentified marine animals like orcas. Yet, the diverse descriptions of the Ningen—particularly its immense size and humanoid features—challenge conventional explanations. The footage and images captured are intriguing but require further analysis to ascertain their authenticity.
**Interviewer:** Could the Ningen be an undiscovered species or a phenomenon created by human imagination?
**Dr. Tanaka:** That’s one of the major questions! Some participants in these sightings believe they encountered a new marine creature—perhaps an unknown species adapted to the harsh Antarctic environment. Others suggest that the Ningen may be a product of folklore or collective imagination, perhaps inspired by our fascination with cryptids. Folklore often reflects cultural fears and yearnings, particularly in remote areas like Antarctica, where the environment is harsh and untamed.
**Interviewer:** Lastly, Dr. Tanaka, what does the future hold for the exploration and study of the Ningen?
**Dr. Tanaka:** I believe that as our technology improves, we will likely see more expeditions aimed at uncovering the truth behind these sightings. Enhanced underwater drones and data-gathering equipment could help clarify the mystery of the Ningen. Whether it’s a new species or a captivating tale rooted in human imagination, studying the Ningen may lead us to deeper understanding—not only of our oceans but of the human psyche as well.
**Interviewer:** Thank you, Dr. Tanaka! Your insights into the Ningen and the cryptid’s surrounding lore are truly fascinating. We look forward to seeing where this mysterious adventure leads!
**Dr. Tanaka:** Thank you for having me! I’m excited to see how this story evolves.
