In recent hours, a report has circulated on social networks that an accident occurred at the “Guiteras” thermoelectric plant. The government of Matanzas clarified the rumor and left this statement on its channel.
According to the Matanzas government on its official Telegram channel, they warned, since last night, of the circulation of fake news that is being spread through malicious profiles on social networks.
These publications claim that an accident occurred in one of the towers of the CTE Antonio Guiteras approximately six hours ago, which is completely false, they indicated.
«Good evening, FAKE NEWS about an alleged accident in a CTE Antonio Guiteras tower 6 hours ago is circulating on the networks from ill-intentioned profiles. This fact is totally false,” they confirmed.
They emphatically clarified that no incident of this type has taken place and that such information has no basis or connection with reality.
Likewise, they called not to fall into misinformation or the intentions of those who seek to create alarm or confusion through fabricated and unverified news in the midst of the energy crisis that the island is experiencing.
For this reason, they asked the population to trust only “official channels”, avoiding spreading unfounded rumors. In addition to staying informed with verified data, something that is key to not being part of the spread of misinformation.
There is no accident in the “Guiteras”
The false note of the supposed accident at the “Guiteras”, according to the screenshot presented by the Matanzas government, indicated that a column had detached from the chimney and had buried four workers. It had been shared in a Facebook group called “Frándula Cubana.”
Some readers remembered that the false news referred to a situation that occurred in April 2023, not now, when two workers, Lázaro Montero Pita and Alexis Bernardo Labrada Junco, lost their lives after the collapse that occurred inside the chimney of the Guiteras.
This was an unfortunate accident that occurred at the Guiteras thermoelectric plant, but more than a year ago.
