Anzoátegui FC came first in the series against Marítimo de La Guaira, valid for the quarterfinals of the Liga Futve 2, which is the second division of Venezuelan professional soccer.
The team that is once again under the technical direction of Alexis Jordán won 2-0 at Club Barcelona Sport, in a tough first leg match that was played on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 30, 2024.
Giovanni Dolgetta opened the scoreboard for the Anzoatiguense team, while Clyde García increased the difference with a goal against at the end of the first half.
First step
Anzoátegui was able to take a great first step in a tie where in the previous round he did not look like a favorite, since he faces the team that finished as leader of the Central-Oriental Group and that also has among its ranks the top scorer of the regular phase (Jhon Escobar with 14 points).
Furthermore, in eight duels they had only been able to beat the red-green team once, plus a couple of draws. However, all that mattered little and the Anzoatiguense team showed that it is determined to fight hard to achieve promotion to the first division.
During the first stages of the challenge, both teams tried to create danger in the rival area, but the attempts were not fruitful. It was in the 33rd minute, in a corner kick executed by Guillermo Marín, that Giovanni Dolgetta was able to score 1-0 with a great header that beat goalkeeper Williams Tortolero.
The other target
At the end of the first half, Luis Martell sent a cross from the right wing and visiting defender Clyde García tried to clear it in the heart of the area, but sent the ball into his own goal to make it 2-0.
In the second 45 minutes, the red and green team tried hard to score a goal, but the attempts were in vain and the locals protected their advantage.
Anzoátegui will seek to seal the tie in the second leg, which will be played at the Camurí Chico Sports Center in La Guaira. The winner of this key (B) will face the winner of series C in the semifinals, between Trujillanos FC and Héroes de Falcón.
