After a careful analysis of the final version of the Gabonese Constitution which will be submitted to the people for adoption through the referendum scheduled for November 16, 2024, the Gabao Movement calls on its activists and supporters to vote massively for “yes”.
“The Gabao Movement, the people’s party, asks all its local delegates, its activists, its sympathizers and all Gabonese men and women who recognize themselves in its ideals and values, across the 9 provinces of Gabon and in the diaspora, to massively support “yes” during the constitutional referendum of November 19, 2024”launched Franck Nguema, president of this political group whose ambition is to influence the national political scene.
For him, “vox populi, vox deî (the voice of the people is the voice of God”, and this draft constitution is the voice of the people”. It restores sovereignty and dignity to the Gabonese people, he underlines.
Developed on the model of the strong presidential system, the future fundamental law will guarantee the separation and balance of powers, it is indicated. If in this version the President of the Republic has important prerogatives, but the exercise of certain powers is restrictive. The declaration of war, for example, contained in article 61 requires prior adoption by parliament; as well as the signing of orders and decrees deliberated in the Council of Ministers.
“The Gabao Movement specifies that the draft Constitution is certainly not perfect like any human work, but this version of the constitution is more consensual following several amendments”he argued.
Determined to play an essential role in the next electoral contests, Franck Nguema undertook a national tour from May 18 to September 30, 2024 across the country. For more than 4 months, he was “meeting Gabonese women and men”. During more than “200 popular local talks throughout Gabon”, he and his teams delivered a message of hope for a new Gabon.

**Interview with Franck Nguema, President of the Gabao Movement**
**Editor:** Thank you for joining us today, Franck Nguema. Your party, the Gabao Movement, has made a strong endorsement of the upcoming constitutional referendum set for November 19, 2024. Could you elaborate on why the Gabao Movement believes this draft constitution deserves a “yes” vote from the people?
**Franck Nguema:** Thank you for having me. Our endorsement stems from a careful analysis of the final version of the Gabonese Constitution. We believe it represents the aspirations and needs of our people. It is designed to restore dignity and promote equality, addressing various socio-political issues that have long affected our society.
**Editor:** You emphasized the importance of public engagement in your statement. How do you plan to mobilize support across the nine provinces of Gabon and among the diaspora?
**Franck Nguema:** Mobilization is key to our mission. We are leveraging our local delegates and activists to facilitate discussions and raise awareness about the constitution. We are meeting with community leaders and organizing events to share the positive changes the constitution proposes. Our message is clear: this is about empowering every Gabonese citizen.
**Editor:** You mentioned that “vox populi, vox Dei” (the voice of the people is the voice of God). How does this principle guide the Gabao Movement’s vision for governance in Gabon?
**Franck Nguema:** This principle is foundational to our movement. It reminds us that our leadership must always be rooted in the will of the people. We see our role not as rulers, but as representatives. The constitution reflects the people’s voice, and its adoption is a step towards a more inclusive and participatory governance model.
**Editor:** What specific benefits do you think the new constitution will bring to Gabonese citizens?
**Franck Nguema:** The new constitution aims to enhance human rights protections, encourage civic engagement, and ensure public accountability. It includes provisions for better resource management, social welfare, and environmental protection. These changes will create a framework that fosters sustainable development and gives our citizens a stake in their governance.
**Editor:** what message do you want to convey to those who may be hesitant about participating in the referendum?
**Franck Nguema:** I urge all Gabonese people to participate actively in this critical moment. Every voice matters, and every vote counts. This constitution is a tool for empowerment and progress. By supporting it, we are collectively deciding the future of our nation, ensuring it aligns with our values and aspirations.
**Editor:** Thank you, Franck Nguema, for your insights and for sharing the vision of the Gabao Movement. We wish you the best in the upcoming referendum.
**Franck Nguema:** Thank you for having me. Together, let’s build a better Gabon!
