O Instagram yesterday announced a new feature for direct messages (direct messagesor DMs) that allows filter message requests based on a series of options.
According to the platform, these filters were added in response to requests from creators, who often have difficulty dealing with the high volume of requests received. The head of the social network, Adam Mosserieven published a video promoting the news:
We’re introducing improvements to DMs for content creators, including new ways to filter message requests so you can easily find the messages you don’t want to miss. There’s a lot more work to do to make DMs easier for creators to navigate, so please keep the feedback coming.
Focused mainly on users who receive a high volume of messages, such as creators, the new feature allows you to organize requests based on the number of followers of the accounts trying to get in touch and their order of arrival.
Additionally, it is possible to filter messages from creators, companies and subscribed followers (that is, those who pay to receive exclusive content), as well as whether these accounts are verified or not.
The social network also added a folder at the top of the conversation list that brings together all messages that are, in fact, responses to Stories published by the user. There is also a folder with hidden requests and another with all received messages.
These organization and filtering options have already started to be released by Instagram, which promised to further improve DMs for creators.

**Interview with Sarah Thompson, Social Media Expert, on Instagram’s New DM Features**
**Interviewer:** Thank you for joining us today, Sarah. Instagram just rolled out exciting new features for direct messages aimed at creators. What are your initial thoughts on these updates?
**Sarah Thompson:** Thank you for having me! I think these new features are a significant step forward for creators who are inundated with direct messages. The ability to filter message requests based on various criteria—like follower count and verification status—will definitely help streamline the process. Creators can focus on the messages that matter most to them.
**Interviewer:** Absolutely. The option to filter requests based on criteria like whether accounts are verified or related to businesses seems particularly useful. How do you think this will change the way creators engage with their audience?
**Sarah Thompson:** It’s going to change the game for engagement. Creators often miss valuable interactions simply because their inbox is overwhelmed. With these filters, they can prioritize their responses and ensure they connect with their community in a more intentional way. This should lead to better relationships and more meaningful interactions overall.
**Interviewer:** What do you think about the time limit for editing DMs set at 15 minutes? Is this a helpful feature for users?
**Sarah Thompson:** Yes, definitely! In the fast-paced world of social media, mistakes happen frequently, and being able to edit a message within that timeframe allows for better communication. It minimizes the embarrassment of typos or miscommunication, which is essential for maintaining professionalism, especially for creators.
**Interviewer:** Instagram has indicated that they’re continuously looking for feedback to improve these features. How important is community input in shaping social media tools?
**Sarah Thompson:** Community input is crucial! Platforms like Instagram thrive on user engagement, and listening to creators will help refine features like these. The new DM features were introduced in response to creators’ needs, and ongoing feedback will ensure that Instagram stays relevant and effective for its users.
**Interviewer:** Great insights, Sarah. Before we wrap up, what would you recommend to creators who are trying to navigate these new features successfully?
**Sarah Thompson:** I would encourage them to take full advantage of the filtering tools to prioritize their messages. Also, stay active in providing feedback to Instagram. By being vocal about what works and what doesn’t, they can help shape future updates to be even more user-friendly.
**Interviewer:** Thank you so much for your time, Sarah. Your perspective is incredibly valuable as social media continues to evolve!
**Sarah Thompson:** My pleasure! Thank you for discussing these important updates.
