THE FILM Anak Kolong, produced by PIM Pictures, will soon be released in Indonesian cinemas starting November 7. This romantic drama genre film will tell a story with the background of ‘anak kolong’ – the term for child soldiers who live in TNI complexes or dormitories – which was considered successful.
Tells a story about the lives of underclass children, and follows the character Arya, played by Junior Roberts. Arya must grow up to meet the hopes and expectations of her father who is a soldier. His father’s harsh upbringing made him a rebellious teenager, but his heart softens when he gets to know Amira, played by Aisyah Aqila.
“My hope as a producer is that the romantic drama film Anak Kolong can be enjoyed or watched widely in cinemas and can be accepted by the audience and liked as an entertaining spectacle and a character film in Indonesia, considering that currently there are still very few films with this story genre. ” said Anak Kolong producer Agustinus Sitorus, in his statement, Thursday, (31/10).

Welcoming the release of the film Anak Kolong, the film’s producers and actors also visited the house of former Chairman of the Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly Bambang Soesatyo (Bamsoet). Bamsoet said he was also an ‘underclass child’. Bamsoet, as he is known, is a politician and businessman, who has also held seats in the DPR RI and Chair of the MPR RI.
The cast of the film Anak Kolong who visited Bambang Soesatyo’s house included Junior Roberts, Aisyah Aqilah, Antonio Blanco, Rizky Hanggono, Bonni Saputra, Suheil Bisyir, Wiliam Roberts and producers Agustinus Sitorus and Bambang Dirgantoro. Their arrival was also accompanied by Blackstone Picture director Ola Difla.
Bamsoet encouraged film industry people to produce more national films with themes of nationalism and patriotism. According to him, consistency in making national films with a strong message of nationalist spirit will contribute greatly to the development of national character.
“Apart from entertainment, films also function as an educational tool. Through films, viewers can learn about the social, political and cultural context that shapes a country. “By showing the struggles of heroes, conflicts and important national moments, films can help the younger generation understand and appreciate the history of their nation,” said Bambang Soesatyo. **Interview with Agustinus Sitorus, Producer of ‘Anak Kolong’**
**Interviewer:** Thank you for joining us today, Agustinus. The film ‘Anak Kolong’ is set to premiere soon. Can you share with us what inspired the story behind this film?
**Agustinus Sitorus:** Thank you for having me. The inspiration for ‘Anak Kolong’ comes from the unique experiences of children growing up in military environments. We wanted to shed light on the lives of these children, who often face strict upbringing and high expectations from their parents. The story follows Arya, a boy navigating these challenges while discovering love and understanding through his relationship with Amira.
**Interviewer:** That’s intriguing! The concept of ‘anak kolong’ is quite specific. How do you think this film will resonate with the audience, especially those who may not be familiar with that lifestyle?
**Agustinus Sitorus:** While the term ‘anak kolong’ may be specific to military families, the themes of growing up, rebellion, and finding love are universal. We believe that audiences will connect with Arya’s struggles and growth, which reflect broader issues many teenagers face today.
**Interviewer:** The film is described as a romantic drama. What can viewers expect in terms of the film’s tone and message?
**Agustinus Sitorus:** Viewers can expect an emotional journey that balances drama and romance. The film addresses important societal themes while also entertaining. Our aim is to leave the audience with hope and a deeper understanding of the sacrifices and dreams of these children.
**Interviewer:** The premiere is set for November 1 at the XXI Metropole Jakarta, followed by a general release on November 7. What are your hopes for the film’s reception?
**Agustinus Sitorus:** As a producer, my hope is that ‘Anak Kolong’ reaches a wide audience and is appreciated for its storytelling and character depth. I believe there is a niche for films like this in Indonesia, and I hope it paves the way for more stories about underrepresented themes in our cinema.
**Interviewer:** Thank you, Agustinus, for sharing your thoughts. We wish you and the cast all the best for the premiere!
**Agustinus Sitorus:** Thank you! I look forward to seeing audience reactions once the film is out.
