Sporveien: Nothing to indicate that there is anything wrong with trams or infrastructure

The investigation work is still ongoing, writes Sporveien, which runs the trams and owns the tracks, in a press release.

They stress that this work will take time, and that information is collected from a number of sources.

On Wednesday, it became known that the driver has been charged with violating the Road Traffic Act after a tram derailed in Storgata in Oslo and drove into a shop window. Four people, including the driver, were slightly injured.

– The driver and the immediate family are very affected by what has happened. We follow up the driver in line with our routines, writes Sporveien.

The police and the Accident Investigation Board are investigating the case.

Aftenposten and VG has calculated, based on surveillance video of the derailment, that the tram probably had a high speed in the bend where it derailed. According to Aftenposten, the tram hit the shop at at least 35 kilometers per hour, while VG writes that it may have been traveling between 25 and 40 kilometers per hour.

The information has so far not been confirmed by Sporveien or the authorities.

Sporveien states that they are cooperating with the authorities in the investigation work.

– For that reason, we cannot comment on unconfirmed information or disclose information that is formally included in the investigation process, writes Sporveien.
