Vicky Herrera, president of the Venezuelan Travel and Tourism Association (Avavit), reported that agencies have recorded low ticket sales for the holiday season.
“I would like to think that people are leaving it to the last minute because so far the sales they have reported to us have been quite low, we are still not seeing that boom of marketing with the holiday season,” he said in an interview for Union Radio on Thursday, October 31.
Herrera reported that there are financing alternatives for those people who wish to plan their trip in December.
“There are private entities that are in charge of what has to do with financing, but there are also hoteliers that seek to provide a solution to this issue and that are offering financing for the terrestrial part of the tourist packages,” he explained.
The suspension of flights to Panama and the Dominican Republic is maintained
About the Suspended flights to Panama and the Dominican RepublicHerrera said that the measure remains in place, but indicated that some frequencies have improved.
“We are talking about new frequencies for Curacao, Havana (Cuba), Barbados and Moscow (Russia) and this allows us to have at least 103 weekly flights at this time,” he said.
Herrera He pointed out that Colombia in particular has served as a connection to different destinations in the region.
“We hope and bet that we continue to increase, not only the frequency, but also the cities that can be reached through Venezuela and from Venezuela to Colombia, that would be the north that we would have,” he noted.
Tourism sector asked to reconsider the suspension of flights
In September 2024, the Higher Council of Tourism (Conseturismo) urged the Venezuelan authorities on Thursday, September 26, to reconsider suspension of flights to the Dominican Republic, Panama and Peru.
“Prolonging the commercial isolation of Venezuela represents a hard blow for our sector, tourism and its entire value chain at the national level,” he stated in a statement released by the Association of Airlines in Venezuela (ALAV).
In addition to the economic impacts, Conseturismo recalled that it also limits the mobility of Venezuelans and restricts the flow of tourists to Venezuela.
“The image of Venezuela as a tourist destination is seriously affected, discouraging tourism offers, foreign investment and making it difficult to promote our heritage attractions,” he added.
Conseturismo recalled that this measure was also accompanied by the suspension of flights with Chile, which it considered “drastically reduces international air connectivity to our country.”
The suspension of flights with Chile in September 2024 added to the “temporary” cessation of air operations with Panama, Dominican Republic and Peru, in force since July 31 by order of the Venezuelan Executive
