BUDI Djiwandono was elected by acclamation to become General Chair of the Central Management of the Indonesian Basketball Association (PP Perbasi) for the 2024-2028 period after being the sole candidate in the election.

At the PP Perbasi National Conference (Munas) in Jakarta, Tuesday, Budi Djiwandono explained eight missions to bring basketball to industry and achievement as part of the Indonesia Emas 2045 program.

“I raised the theme of basketball achieving industry and achievements towards a Golden Indonesia 2045. This is in accordance with Law number 11 of 2022 concerning sports,” said Budi Djiwandono

Budi Djiwandono emphasized the importance of collaboration between Perbasi, provincial administrators, district administrators, national team officials as well as sponsors and the private sector.

“Basketball is not just a sport, but an industry. This means that this sport is not just an arena for us to seek fitness or health but also an industry,” said Budi Djiwandono.

According to Budi, basketball can have a significant economic impact on Indonesian society. Apart from that, basketball must be able to produce outstanding athletes.

“This could have an economic impact on Indonesian society. This sport must be able to produce outstanding athletes,” said Budi.

“As an industry, it must be able to create as many jobs as possible for Indonesia,” he added.

In the eight missions presented, Budi emphasized holding championships both on an international and national scale in all age groups.

Apart from that, there is also a 3×3 basketball competition in the men’s and women’s categories, which has a format like the Indonesian Basketball League (IBL) 5×5.

Budi also promised to equalize field development in regions throughout Indonesia. Then they will provide assistance funds of IDR 400 million to provincial administrators with a breakdown of IDR 100 million per year.

Budi Djiwandono is not new to the world of Indonesian basketball. This 43 year old man is the Treasurer of PP Perbasi 2015-2016 and Secretary General of PP Perbasi 2016-2019. (Ant/Z-6)

**Interviewer:** ​Looking ahead, what do you see as some of the ‍biggest challenges for basketball in Indonesia?

**Budi Djiwandono:** One of the biggest challenges⁣ is developing a sustainable talent pipeline that can feed ⁤into our national ⁤teams. We⁢ also need to⁣ strengthen‍ the competitive landscape at the grassroots level, ensuring we’re nurturing young players effectively. Additionally, promoting basketball as‌ a viable career path in Indonesia is crucial for its growth.
