Production of Polish FA-50PL fighter jets begins in South Korea Business

Poland in 2022 signed a contract with South Korea to bolster its air defense capabilities amid rising tensions in the region and a changing security situation in Europe.

Officials at Korea Aerospace Industries confirmed that six FA-50PL fighters are currently in production in anticipation of an accelerated delivery schedule. Once completed, these jets will be deployed to the Polish Air Force as part of a wider contract that includes a total of 48 aircraft. The production progress marks an important milestone in expanding defense cooperation between Warsaw and Seoul.

The FA-50PL is a light combat aircraft based on the original FA-50 model, but adapted for Poland to meet NATO operational standards.

The agreement with South Korea also includes extensive pilot training and technical assistance programs to ensure that Polish pilots are fully prepared to operate the aircraft.

In recent years, Poland has rapidly developed its air, land and naval defense platforms, including the purchase of Abrams main battle tanks and HIMARS rocket artillery systems from the United States.
