– Once again the UN has rolled out the red carpet for one of the most anti-Semitic figures in modern history, by giving her a stage where she can spew unfounded propaganda and lies, says Israel’s UN ambassador Danny Danon.
The statement comes after the UN’s special rapporteur for human rights in the Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, has repeated an accusation that Israel is carrying out genocide in the Gaza Strip.
– The aim of the genocide is to completely remove Palestinians from the areas where they live, areas which are such an important part of their identity and which Israel illegally and openly wants, she said on Wednesday.
Albanese is appointed by the UN, but does not speak on behalf of the world organisation.
– Your presence in the UN is a shame, and a betrayal of all moral standards. Get off immediately. Leave your credit at the exit door and join your friends in Hamas and Hezbollah where you belong, says Danon.
Also in August, Albanese accused Israel of genocide in Gaza, a charge Israel then rejected. Allies of Israel have also criticized Albanese.
On Wednesday, she defended herself at a press conference, saying this is not about her, but about “Palestinians who risk being exterminated from their land”. She called the US a “facilitator of what Israel has done”.
US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield stated afterwards that Albanese is “unfit for his role”.

**Interview with Francesca Albanese: UN Rapporteur on Human Rights in Palestinian Territories**
**Interviewer:** Francesca, your recent comments regarding Israel’s actions in Gaza have sparked significant controversy, with critics labeling your statements as anti-Semitic. How do you respond to those accusations?
**Francesca Albanese:** My focus is not on myself but on advocating for the protection of Palestinians who are facing dire situations. It’s crucial to highlight the humanitarian crises and the potential extermination of a people from their homeland.
**Interviewer:** Israel’s UN ambassador, Danny Danon, has called your presence at the UN a “shame” and accused you of being unfit for your role. Do you feel that your position at the UN enables you to effectively challenge powerful narratives surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict?
**Francesca Albanese:** Yes, my role is vital. It allows me to raise awareness about the plight of Palestinians and confront narratives that silence these discussions. The responsibility I have is to amplify the voices of those who are often ignored.
**Interviewer:** Some observers argue that accusations of genocide can hinder productive dialogue and efforts towards peace. What are your thoughts on balancing critical human rights advocacy with the need for diplomatic discussions?
**Francesca Albanese:** It’s essential to address harsh realities honestly while remaining open to dialogue. However, the urgency of the situation necessitates that we speak boldly about the grave risks and injustices that confront the Palestinian people.
**Interviewer:** The U.S. has also criticized you, stating that your comments are unfit for a UN rapporteur. In light of this pressure, do you perceive any potential consequences for your advocacy work?
**Francesca Albanese:** Advocacy comes with risks, especially on politically charged issues. However, the outcome of raising these issues is far more important than personal consequences. It’s crucial to keep the conversation alive about human rights for all.
**Interviewer:** Lastly, with such polarized viewpoints, how do you propose that we can create a more constructive atmosphere for discourse on this topic?
**Francesca Albanese:** Open dialogue is key. It’s important for both sides to listen to each other’s narratives without resorting to labeling or shutting down discussions. Building understanding is essential for any path to peace.
As the debate continues, what are your thoughts on the accusations being made against Francesca Albanese? Do you think her statements bring valuable attention to Palestinian rights, or do you believe they risk undermining more diplomatic solutions to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict?
