This Thursday, during the Singapore Short Course World Cup, Frenchman Léon Marchand broke the European record in the 100 meter medley.
Léon Marchand no longer stops. This Thursday, during the last stage of the Short Course Swimming World Cup, which is currently taking place in Singapore, the Frenchman set the European record for the 100 meter medley distance. On the latter, the new reference time, at the continental level and in the small basin, is now 49”92. The old record dated from 2018 and was the property of Morozov who, at the time, set a time of 50”26. At the end of this new great performance, the Frenchman spoke to the press present on site, indicating in particular that he had corrected “the small errors” seen during the previous stages, which took place in Shanghai and Incheon. “Just go faster in butterfly and backstroke,” he said, as reported by the French sports daily The Team.
Marchand, towards a hat-trick in medley?
In China, over the same distance of the 100 meter medley, Léon Marchand had already broken the French record, in a time of 50”65. In South Korea, in a time of 51”, the Habs had to share first place this time with Noè Ponti, their competitor in the general classification. This time, on the Singapore side, the competition was far behind. Thanks to this great performance, Marchand now finds himself in a more than ideal position to win the World Cup. In addition to the 100 meter medley, the Frenchman is also very well positioned to achieve the hat-trick in this same specialty, adding the 200 meter medley as well as the 400 meter medley. As during the previous stages of this short course World Cup, the swimmer preferred to concentrate on his favorite disciplines and this therefore continues to pay off. A very good omen before the short course world championships, which will take place in December in Budapest.
