“Lithuania is very positive about the EU’s plans to propose a package of offshore wind energy legislation, which will be very important in order to exploit the full potential of Lithuanian offshore wind in the Baltic Sea. However, in order to achieve a climate-neutral economy, the European Union must also prepare a comprehensive strategy that includes the perspectives of all member states and different energy sectors,” said Minister D. Lithuania has a goal until 2030. to become energetically self-sufficient and 100 percent consumed electricity to produce from renewable sources and ambitious plans in the field of green hydrogen production. The ministers also discussed the need for the EU to abandon the import of Russian energy resources as one of the most important issues on the EU agenda. The EU is committed to ending imports by 2027, but this term could be shorter at the initiative of the member states.
The Belgian delegation visited Lithuania in preparation for the country’s presidency of the EU Council in 2024. the first half of the year. During this 6-month period, the presiding member state is responsible for meetings at all levels in the Council and helps to ensure the continuity of the EU agenda. Belgium will take over the presidency of the EU Council from the current presidency of Spain.
