At the CMP of Noisy-le-Sec (EPS Ville-Evrard), the Sharing and Knowledge Group (GPS) has produced a small booklet on the experience of mental illness. “You are not alone”: this is the message that the participants would like to convey to other affected people, in order to help them in the stages that mark the recovery journey. Press release.
This booklet entitled “The experience of mental illness: for sharing knowledge” comes from around twenty meetings which took place at the Noisy-le-Sec medical-psychological center (over a period of two years: 2022-2024) between two nurses in psychiatric care, Aline Pesier and Stéphanie Morice, and a small group of patients. This space, called the Sharing and Knowledge Group (GPS), made it possible to build and shape a path of thought around illness, care, and their acceptance; journey that the participants wanted to be able to transmit beyond the group and, perhaps, be useful to others.
The CMP treatment room, intended mainly for the administration and delivery of treatments, is the daily place for formal and informal exchanges, and for questioning around the care project. Whether it concerns medication treatments, healthy lifestyle rules, additional examinations to be carried out, or even attendance at scheduled appointments, the subject of compliance is far from simple. The most frequently discussed topics were used as thematic support for the sessions, as follows:
– the fact of not feeling the beneficial effects of treatments but their undesirable effects and their constraints;
-the lack of information on the disease and the treatments prescribed;
– the frequency and number of medication taken;
– the duration of treatment;
– the view of others on psychiatric follow-up;
– the impact of treatment on sexuality;
– the question of care and work;
– the link with the doctor…
The message from the participants in the knowledge sharing group
To all people suffering from mental illness, we, Catherine, Maxime, Xavier, Gaétan, Rayane, Bahi, the participants of the “GPS” knowledge sharing group, say to you: “ You are not all alone “. Because “we have fought the disease and we are still fighting it, that we have acquired knowledge about our disease, that we have learned to live with it, that we think that perhaps, as we have done, you are wondering about the need to get help, we wish through this document to share with you our experiences and the journey that we took to achieve a balance in life. »
This knowledge sharing and patient-caregiver co-development group was thus born. It made it possible to compare experiences, to promote the ability to become independent in the face of illness, and to find acceptable solutions based on the skills of each person. It was also a matter of preventing disruptions in care as best as possible through the involvement, understanding and appropriation by the patient of their care project as something useful for improving daily life and achieving socio-professional integration.

**Interview with Aline Pesier and Stéphanie Morice from the Sharing and Knowledge Group (GPS)**
**Editor**: Thank you for joining us today, Aline and Stéphanie. Can you tell us about the impetus behind creating the booklet, “The experience of mental illness: for sharing knowledge”?
**Aline Pesier**: Thank you for having us! The idea for the booklet stemmed from our discussions within the Sharing and Knowledge Group. Over the two years of meetings, we recognized a shared need among participants to express their experiences with mental illness and recovery. We wanted to extend a message of hope and reassurance: that no one is alone in this journey.
**Stéphanie Morice**: Absolutely. The booklet serves as a voice for our participants, highlighting real-life experiences and the challenges they face, especially regarding the journey of acceptance and care. We felt it was crucial to share these insights so that others who may be struggling could find comfort and guidance.
**Editor**: What specific themes or issues did the group focus on during your meetings?
**Aline Pesier**: We had open discussions about various topics related to mental health, but some recurring themes included the difficulty of experiencing the side effects of treatments without feeling their benefits, the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and staying compliant with treatment plans. These discussions were vital for participants to understand they are not alone in their struggles.
**Stéphanie Morice**: And through these conversations, we created a supportive environment where individuals could express their feelings and receive validation. This community aspect of GPS was incredibly powerful and served as a foundation for the ideas presented in our booklet.
**Editor**: It sounds like the group has created a safe space for dialogue. How do you envision this booklet impacting others?
**Aline Pesier**: We hope that the booklet will reach both individuals living with mental illness and their families. By sharing these stories and insights, we aim to foster a broader understanding of mental health experiences and encourage open discussions.
**Stéphanie Morice**: Additionally, we want to remind readers that recovery is a journey filled with ups and downs, but it is achievable. Our message, “You are not alone,” is meant to resonate with anyone facing similar challenges.
**Editor**: What are the next steps for the Sharing and Knowledge Group following the launch of this booklet?
**Aline Pesier**: We’re planning to hold workshops where participants can continue to share their experiences and perhaps even contribute to future editions of the booklet. This is an ongoing journey, and we want to keep the conversations alive.
**Stéphanie Morice**: We also aim to collaborate with other organizations and professionals in the field to widen our reach and impact. There’s so much to learn from each other, and we look forward to fostering those connections.
**Editor**: Thank you both for sharing your insights and for the important work you’re doing through the Sharing and Knowledge Group. We wish you all the best with the booklet and your future endeavors.
**Aline Pesier and Stéphanie Morice**: Thank you! We appreciate the opportunity to highlight this essential work.
