The government of Colombia announced on Tuesday that it does not rule out changing its position with respect to Venezuela after the official inauguration of President Nicolás Maduro on January 10, after some countries in the region have already recognized Edmundo González as the winner of the July elections.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, Néstor Morales, said in statements to Blu Radio that the government’s position is not unsustainable and that they are waiting for the electoral process to be closed.
«We are monitoring, we will communicate what changes our position has (…) President Maduro’s term runs until January 10. We will make decisions when that time comes,” explained the Foreign Minister.
Morales has expressed himself in these terms when he has been asked about the reception of the Venezuelan delegation that has attended the United Nations Conference on Biodiversity that hosts these days the city of Cali.
Colombia, Morales explained, as “agent of the United Nations” in this event, must receive “all members of the global community” and “obviously Venezuela is part of that scenario,” he said.
