Earlier today, eager Marvel fans were treated to the highly anticipated first footage of Daredevil: Born Again, a key addition to the slate of Marvel TV shows scheduled for a 2025 release. This series, initially announced in May 2022, has undergone a significant creative revamp as of September 2023, making the footage all the more intriguing. Although I’m eagerly awaiting the official trailer for Born Again, it was nonetheless exciting to catch a glimpse of the series. After multiple viewings, one pressing question looms large in my mind: What transpired with Wilson D’Onofrio’s character, Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. Kingpin, particularly regarding the miraculous healing of his eye?
At the dramatic conclusion of Hawkeye, viewers witnessed Fisk being shot by his adoptive niece, Maya Lopez, as an act of revenge after he orchestrated an assassination attempt on Clint Barton during his dark Ronin phase. While it was initially suggested that Maya had killed Fisk, it was later revealed that he survived, albeit with significant damage to his left eye. By the end of Echo, Fisk’s eye remained severely injured during his ambitious run for mayor of New York, yet the footage from Daredevil: Born Again indicates that his left eye appears restored to normal.
In the original comics, Wilson Fisk endured the loss of vision in both eyes following the gunshot from Maya Lopez, ultimately regaining his sight through an eye transplant. Is this plotline being adopted within the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s narrative? This scenario opens a dialogue about why Wilson D’Onofrio’s Fisk didn’t pursue this medical intervention sooner. After a lengthy five-month recovery period, did he prioritize reconciling with Maya over simply fixing his eye? Given the complexities of their relationship, one could easily see him making such a choice.
Yet, we must remember we are navigating a superhero universe, and one might hope for a more extraordinary explanation for Kingpin’s restored vision. Given the grounded nature of Daredevil: Born Again, magical realism seems unlikely. A more technologically advanced rationale could paint the picture, such as Fisk receiving a cutting-edge mechanical eye that appears perfectly normal externally yet boasts hidden functionalities. Alternatively, perhaps he underwent a groundbreaking procedure involving a serum capable of regenerating his eye completely.
Maybe I’m simply overanalyzing this plot detail, and it will be resolved through a straightforward mention of an eye transplant. It is essential that Daredevil: Born Again acknowledges the miraculous return of Kingpin’s left eye, given the significant storyline around his injury. Understandably, many viewers tuning into the new series via their Disney+ subscriptions may not have caught Echo, but the events surrounding Fisk’s shooting and the consequent loss of his eye are pivotal moments that should not be overlooked.
Daredevil: Born Again is set to premiere on March 4, 2025, so be sure to keep visiting CinemaBlend for the latest updates regarding the show. You can also catch up on all three seasons of the original Daredevil series, which previously aired on Netflix.

**Interview with Comic Book Expert and Marvel Enthusiast, Alex Carter**
**Editor**: Thank you for joining us today, Alex. Marvel fans have been buzzing about the first footage from *Daredevil: Born Again*. What are your thoughts on the significance of this release?
**Alex Carter**: Thanks for having me! The footage is a game changer for fans, especially since *Born Again* has gone through a creative overhaul. It shows that Marvel is committed to giving us something fresh while also connecting to the larger narrative established in shows like *Hawkeye* and *Echo*.
**Editor**: Absolutely. One of the biggest questions coming out of the footage involves Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. Kingpin. Considering his eye injury from *Hawkeye*, what do you think accounts for his restored vision in this new series?
**Alex Carter**: That’s a great point! In the footage, it seems like they’re hinting at potential comic elements where Fisk receives an eye transplant. His character has faced intense challenges, and this could symbolize not only his physical restoration but also his resilience in the face of adversity. It would tie back to the comics, where he lost vision and then overcame that setback.
**Editor**: You mentioned the comics. Do you believe that Marvel is moving towards integrating these comic book storylines more deeply into the MCU?
**Alex Carter**: Definitely! The MCU has always taken inspiration from the comics, but what we’ve seen with *Daredevil: Born Again* suggests they’re not afraid to delve into more complex narratives. It could be that they’re taking inspiration from Wilson Fisk’s full arc, which often emphasizes themes of redemption, power, and the consequences of vengeance—especially highlighting his relationship with characters like Maya Lopez.
**Editor**: That gives a lot of food for thought. With *Born Again* set for a 2025 release, what are you hoping to see in the upcoming trailer and the series overall?
**Alex Carter**: I really want to see how they navigate the balance of darkness and humor that *Daredevil* is known for. Also, I’d love a deeper exploration of Matt Murdock’s relationships—his moral struggles, allies, and adversaries in this new chapter. It’s a pivotal time for the character, and I think there’s so much potential for storytelling.
**Editor**: Exciting times ahead for Marvel fans! Thank you, Alex, for sharing your insights.
**Alex Carter**: My pleasure! I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds.
