Less than a month after the launch of MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400 platform, some flagships with the chipset have been launched and more are expected to hit the market by the end of this year and in 2025.
While the Dimensity 9400 will remain MediaTek’s most advanced SoC, the company is expected to soon announce a more affordable option, the Dimensity 8400. According to tipster Digital Chat Station, the platform could adopt a similar “All Big Core” core structure.
In a post on the Chinese social network Weibo, Digital Chat Station claims that the Dimensity 8400 will use TSMC’s 4-nanometer lithography process, just like its predecessor. However, the highlight would be its “all big-core” architecture.
MediaTek adopted this design for its SoCs starting with the Dimensity 9300, with the Dimensity 9400 continuing this trend and Qualcomm also announcing its Snapdragon 8 Elite flagship platform with a similar structure.
If the leak is correct, MediaTek will adopt a similar structure for the Dimensity 8400 with the main core possibly being the Cortex-A725. According to the informant, the platform could obtain a score between 1.7 and 1.8 million on AnTuTu.
For reference, Digital Chat Station remembers that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 achieved 1.6 million in the benchmark, while the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 was around 2 million. This means that the Dimensity 8400 could surpass the first and reach performance levels close to the second.
MediaTek has not announced a release date for the Dimensity 8400, but the SoC recently appeared in Xiaomi’s HyperOS code bank. This indicates that a device from the brand is under development with the chipset.
