The game
With the Large 5-0 lead built in the first duelin Rio de Janeiro, Botafogo entered the field without four players who were suspended for this Wednesday’s game. Alvinegro, however, felt the absence of strikers Luiz Henrique and Igor Jesus, as well as Almada, who was rested.
Practically needing a miracle, Peñarol went up in the first half and after insisting so much, opened the scoring after 30 minutes, with a true goal from outside the area by Báez. The Uruguayan team could have even done more, if it weren’t for the post and John, who made good saves to avoid it.
The Rio team’s best chance so far was Alex Telles’ free kick, at 21.
Even before the break, the goalkeeper Aguerre hit the black and white archer in a move without the ball and ended up being sent off. De Amores entered the position.
At the beginning of the 2nd half, Tiquinho tried to clear Rodríguez, and the ball hit the defender’s hand inside the area. The referee immediately awarded a penalty, but took it back after a VAR review.
Even with one down, Peñarol went up and scored the second again with a shot from Báez, at 20.
Afterwards, Botafogo suffered another blow. Mateo Ponte received a second yellow card for a foul on Báez and was sent off.
With 10 on each side, the match was open. Alvinegro could have scored at 33, but Marlon Freitas stopped goalkeeper De Amores.
In the final stretch, the Uruguayans went for it all or nothing. Until at 42, Almada scored with Marlon Freitas and sent it into the back of the net to make it 2-1.
But Peñarol responded immediately. Facundo Batista scored the third, at 43. Nothing, however, that would disturb the celebration of the Botafoguenses, who are going to the Libertadores final for the first time in history.

Botafogo Reaches the Libertadores Final!
Botafogo is in the final CONMEBOL Libertadores for the first time in history!
The black-and-white team even lost to Peñarol 3-1 on Wednesday (30) at the Centenario Stadium in Montevideo, but sealed their ticket to the decision with a 6-3 victory on aggregate.

The Game: A Dramatic Semi-Final
With a sensational 5-0 lead from the first match in Rio, Botafogo strutted onto the field without the star power of four suspended players. And boy, did they miss their strikers Luiz Henrique and Igor Jesus! Of course, it didn’t help that Almada was resting, probably binge-watching Disney+ while this thrilling match unfolded!
Peñarol, practically needing a miracle, played like a team possessed. They opened the scoring after 30 minutes with a long-range screamer from Báez. Give that man a medal! If not for a few miraculous saves from John and the post, Peñarol could have been licking the wounds of a more extensive defeat.
Botafogo’s best chance came from Alex Telles’ free kick. 21 minutes in and it was a decent effort, but he clearly wasn’t auditioning for the lead role over on Disney+.
As the first half wound down, things took a twist! The Peñarol goalkeeper got a red card for clobbering a Botafogo player. Honestly, mate, that’s not how you “goalkeep.” But hey, who needs a *keeper* when you’re just trying to score spectacular goals and ruin dreams?
The second half was equally dramatic. Tiquinho thought he’d grabbed a penalty opportunity but alas, after a VAR review, it was snatched away like yesterday’s news. However, Peñarol weren’t done. They went on to score again, Báez doing it again like he was on a scoring spree!
Botafogo found themselves in dire straits as Mateo Ponte was sent off. That’s ten men on each side, folks! And yet, the black-and-whites managed a late rally, with Almada creeping in for a spectacular goal. Alas, Peñarol replied immediately with another goal, ensuring it was a nail-biting finish where both fans were likely gnawing at their jerseys!
Commentary
So, here we are! Botafogo has made it to the final! A historic occasion that has fans hooting and hollering like they’ve just discovered Wi-Fi in the middle of the Amazon! Can you imagine the celebrations? They’re probably still out there in Rio, dancing like it’s Carnivale!
But let’s not kid ourselves; they face Atlético-MG next. Winning a continental title is like trying to find a needle in a haystack while blindfolded and being chased by a rabid meerkat. Are they up to the challenge? Who knows! But if football has taught us anything, it’s that anything can happen – unless it’s my chance at winning the lottery, that is!

The game
Having established a significant 5-0 lead in the first leg held in Rio de Janeiro, Botafogo took the field under challenging conditions, missing four key players who were suspended for this decisive match. The absence of strikers Luiz Henrique and Igor Jesus was especially felt, along with Almada, who was strategically rested to preserve energy for future matches.
Facing an uphill battle, Peñarol aggressively pursued the goal during the first half. After a relentless offensive, they broke the deadlock at the 30-minute mark with an impressive long-range strike from Báez. The Uruguayan team could have extended their lead further if not for the post and a series of excellent saves from Botafogo’s goalkeeper, John.
As the first half progressed, Botafogo’s best opportunity came from a free kick taken by Alex Telles in the 21st minute, which narrowly missed the target.
In a dramatic turn of events, Peñarol’s goalkeeper Aguerre received a red card just before halftime after a contentious off-the-ball incident involving Botafogo’s striker.
At the beginning of the second half, a potential penalty for Botafogo was overturned after a VAR review, as the referee determined that the defender’s handball, caused by Tiquinho’s shot, was unintentional.
Despite being one player down, Peñarol scored their second goal through another excellent shot from Báez in the 20th minute, reigniting their hopes.
However, Botafogo faced additional adversity when Mateo Ponte was shown a second yellow card for a foul on Báez, resulting in his dismissal. With both teams down to ten players, the intensity of the match escalated dramatically.
<pIn the final minutes, Peñarol's relentless pursuit led to Almada finally finding the net, scoring at the 42-minute mark and temporarily igniting their hopes for a comeback.
Nevertheless, Peñarol’s excitement was quickly overshadowed as Facundo Batista scored the third goal just a minute later, effectively sealing Botafogo’s historic advance to the Libertadores final—an achievement that will be celebrated by their fans for years to come.
