He probably did so to get ahead of Apple and its September unveiling of the iPhones. Google will reportedly use the same tactic with the upcoming Pixel 9a – in previous years, it presented its lightweight phones in May, but the upcoming model could see the light of day as early as March. The reason is simple – the forthcoming fourth generation iPhone SE should be revealed in the spring.
Pixel 9a: new design and lower camera resolution
The accelerated premiere of the Pixel 9a is also evidenced by the number of leaks that have appeared in recent weeks. Thanks to them, we know the outlines of both the phone’s equipment and its appearance. The Pixel 9a will be significantly different from its predecessors. While until now Google has placed the camera lenses in a protruding strip stretching across the entire width of the phone, the design of the camera in the Pixel 9a should be much simpler – Google will enclose a pair of lenses in a significantly smaller oval, which should protrude only minimally from the back of the phone.
The cameras themselves will also be upgraded, at least the main one. Google will reportedly use a 48MP sensor from the flexible Pixel 9 Pro Fold smartphone instead of the original 64MP sensor. The wide-angle camera is supposed to keep the resolution of 13 megapixels, but we don’t know if Google will use the same sensor and optics as in this year’s model. The cameras will also improve in terms of software, there is speculation about the addition of the Add me function, thanks to which additional people can be added to the photos.
Pixel 9a will grow between generations. Instead of the original 6.1″ display, Google will deploy a 6.3″ screen, due to which the physical dimensions should increase to 154.7 × 73.3 × 8.9 mm, while the weight should decrease to the resulting 186 grams. The display should support a dynamic change in refresh rate between 60 and 120 Hz.
The phone is powered by the Google Tensor G4 chipset, complemented by 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of storage. The battery capacity should reach 5,000 mAh, the charging power should be the same as that of the current generation – 18 watts via cable, 7.5 watts wirelessly.
The price should be favorable
The Pixel 9a is supposed to keep the selling price of its predecessor – it is 499 dollars in the USA, it is sold in the Czech Republic for 11,490 crowns. The current iPhone SE is also at a similar price level, but the next one could become more expensive due to a significant intergenerational improvement.
