The number of people killed in the floods in the province of Valencia now amounts to 62, according to the latest balance provided by the Emergency Coordination Center of the Generalitat this Wednesday.

In addition, a person has been found dead among the rubble in Letur (Albacete), making it the second person to die in Castilla-La Mancha as a result of the floods.

A search team, made up of more than one hundred people, continues to search for five people who have not been located since noon this Tuesday, when a large flood flooded the center of Letur.

This is the second fatal victim of dana in Castilla-La Mancha, since an octogenarian has also died in Mira (Cuenca), as a result of the rains.

In the case of Valencia, the overflowing of the Poyo ravine as it passes through Aldaia has caused the death of three people who lived in ground-floor homes adjacent to the ravine, as explained to the mayor, Enrique Luján, who has stated that the avenue of water was like “a tsunami.”

The mayor of Paiporta, Maribel Albalat, has assured that “dozens” of people could have died as a result of the damage and has indicated that the town, located ten kilometers from Valencia, is completely cut off and nothing works.

The process of surveying and identifying the deceased continues and the Generalitat has activated the Multiple Victims Procedure since Tuesday night, in anticipation that the floods caused by the Dana will leave several fatalities.

The worst natural disaster in 75 years
