Dayton Bar: A New Dawn for Daytime Drinking

Well, well, well! What’s this? Dayton, the bar that’s as familiar to night owls as a pizza delivery guy at 4 a.m., is taking a leap of faith straight into the daylight. Yes, Gotham has a new bat, ladies and gentlemen, and Morgane Coursinou and Claude Vernhet are at the controls, ready to pilot us through a sea of coffee, cocktails, and potential chaos!

So, here’s the scoop. For the past year, these two brave souls have been operating Dayton, a night bar snugly situated across from Célé on Boulevard Bessières. It’s a classic establishment, renowned for stretching into the wee hours. But recently, they got a wild idea – let’s open up during the day! Because nothing says “come on in” quite like the prospect of a PMU betting system and a whiskey shot before noon! Who needs brunch when you have betting slips and cocktails?

As fate would have it, all it took was for two other bars in Figeac to jump ship from the PMU network — goodbye Le Glacier (seriously, who thought a glacier could ever move?) and adios La Pyramide. And just like that, Morgane and Claude saw their golden opportunity shining as brightly as the sun. They wasted no time requesting their own spot in the PMU world, and bingo! A few weeks later, they were given the stamp of approval. So, mark your calendars for November 5 at 9 a.m., because Dayton is preparing to swing open its doors to a brand-new clientele – and maybe the occasional lunchtime bet!

Now, let’s talk about what this means for the establishment. As Morgane points out, they won’t be tossing out the old for the new. No, no! They’re keeping the spirits high with events that have made Dayton the heartbeat of Saturday nights: concerts, open mics, and perhaps an unfortunate karaoke rendition of “Wonderwall” as everyone collectively cringes. Starting with an open stage night on November 8, followed by concerts featuring Bloc Notes on the 16th and Punk Hit on the 30th, it’s clear that the weekend fun is set to continue as thunderously as a hangover after a good night out.

And here’s the juicy bit: the new Dayton hours. Closed on Mondays (because even bars need a breather), it will welcome PMU patrons from Tuesday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., then pick up the party from 7 p.m. until the wee small hours of the morning. And yes, Sunday is now fair game too, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. — perfect for all those punters who’ve got bets to settle and hangovers to tend to while shaking off the remains of Saturday night.

“It will be quite a discovery for both of us,” says Morgane, practically daydreaming about the future of this ambitious venture. And who could blame her? This exciting, if somewhat precarious, expansion could either set them up for bar stardom or have them downing shots of espresso just to keep their eyes open amidst the chaos!

All in all, Dayton is diving headfirst into the day-drinking scene, adding a PMU twist that could very well redefine their clientele. So, whether you’re looking for a flutter on the horses or simply a caffeine fix to prime yourself for a night of revelry, Dayton promises to cater to all your needs with a cheeky grin and perhaps a slightly raised eyebrow. Because what could possibly go wrong with cocktails at 9 a.m.?

So, here’s to Morgane and Claude! May your dreams be wild, your bets pay off, and your clientele be as eccentric as the concept of mixing daytime drinking with evening extravagance. Cheers to a new era at Dayton! 🍻

For the past year, Morgane Coursinou and Claude Vernhet have been at the helm of Dayton, the night bar located opposite Célé, on Boulevard Bessières. Traditionally open in the evening until late at night, the two owners had been planning for some time to develop their business by extending their opening during the day. It took two bars in Figeac, l’Alexandrie, former bar Le Glacier, and Thoutân Canon, former bar La Pyramide, to stop their affiliation with the PMU network, for them to rush their approach.

“Knowing that these colleagues were ceasing their PMU points of sale, we made the request and a few weeks ago received approval from the network, explains Morgane Coursinou. We still have some work to complete, but everything will be ready for the opening, scheduled for Tuesday, November 5 at 9 a.m. Knowing that we are the only PMU point of sale, with the Carmes tobacco press, I imagine that it will be more restrictive for both of us, with certainly a little more work, but it will be. was the perfect opportunity for our new organization to become a daytime bar, with a PMU point of sale, will bring us a new and different clientele in addition to those we usually receive.

Because Morgane and Claude will provide the same services as before, by organizing evenings on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, with concerts and open stages. This is how a stage open to all, singers or musicians, will take place on Friday November 8, and will be followed by two concerts, Bloc Notes on Saturday 16 and Punk Hit, Saturday November 30.

Closed every Monday, the Dayton will be open to PMU customers every day from Tuesday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., then Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. It will also be open on Sundays, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

“It will be quite a discovery for both of us,” imagines Morgane, already projecting herself into the future, “but we are learning quickly and we hope that it will work.”
