The new season of the SBS6 reality show Familie Gillis: Massa is Kassa starts next Friday. The intense hospitalization of Mark Gillis is also extensively covered. Mark talks to the camera of Shownieuws about these confronting images (see video).
“I have of course already watched all the episodes. You hear the family talking and discussing with each other… yes, that touched me,” says Mark, visibly emotional. In the series you also hear his father, Peter Gillis, say, among other things: “That boy was actually just dead…” Mark: “I think it was the hardest thing for them.” The first images from Massa is Kassa and Mark’s entire reaction can be seen in the video above.
The new, thirteenth season of the popular reality series will have an extra episode, Talpa recently reported to the ANP. The new series, which starts on November 1, therefore has seven instead of six episodes. Gillis family: Massa is Kassa has been shown on SBS6 since August 2020. The reality show revolves around holiday park manager Peter Gillis and his family.
Critical condition
Mark was released from the hospital at the end of August. He was admitted in critical condition in June and was found to have severe pneumonia. He spent some time in intensive care and, according to his father Peter, had to learn to talk and walk again.

Mark Gillis himself gives a health update: ‘I have taken significant steps’
He was released from the hospital on August 30 and has been staying with his father since then. “I’m happy to be home. I just did some laundry and turned the dryer back on, which feels nice too. The last week and a half I’ve been with Dad, I’ve had therapy and rehabilitation. I can walk properly again; actually everything again,” he said during a press moment.
Mark has also gained new insights through his hospitalization. “I want to enjoy it more and that life no longer consists of work, work, work. I also want to live a bit healthier; exercise more and lose extra weight, even if I have already lost twenty kilos. These are eye-openers .”
Transformation
Shownieuws also spoke to Mark on Tuesday about his new life and his transformation. He has already lost more than 25 kilos:

Mark Gillis: From Critical Condition to Reality Stardom
Welcome, dear readers! Grab your popcorn and perhaps a little bit of self-reflection, because we’re diving headfirst into the drama of the latest season of Familie Gillis: Massa is Kassa. Yes, you heard right—it’s not just about the cash flow; it’s also about significant family woes. Looks like reality TV is doing its job of mixing entertainment with an emotional rollercoaster, and boy, do we have a doozy here!
The Comeback Kid
Mark Gillis, the man who famously thought ‘hospital’ was a vacation spot, has been through the wringer. After being hospitalized in critical condition with a severe case of pneumonia— and not the “I just binge-watched too many episodes” kind— he’s back and ready to spill some tea in the thirteenth season, starting November 1st. And let’s not forget the extra episode! Because what’s better than seven episodes of family drama? Just seven more episodes of family drama!
Family Therapy or Family Farce?
In a touching moment that even had the coldest heartstrings plucking, Mark expressed how watching the family’s emotional struggles on camera got to him. “You hear them talking… yes, that touched me,” he sniffled, potentially appealing to cathartic viewers and their sensitive sides. Meanwhile, his father, Peter Gillis, dropped the bombshell that their dear Mark was “actually just dead.” Thanks, Dad! Just when we thought we were having a nice family discussion, you gotta go and turn it into a medical horror show!
The Transformation Journey
Mark has taken this critical condition as a wake-up call—who would’ve thought? He’s had enough of “work, work, work,” and is now embracing the adventurous world of laundry folding and turning the dryer back on. Honestly, folks, it’s the little things that matter! He’s even shed over 25 kg along with another layer of existential dread. Talk about shedding weight and bad habits! It’s the kind of transformation we love to see… on reality TV, anyway!
Healing with a Side of Humor
But let’s not kid ourselves, Mark’s journey is one filled with introspection—a.k.a., “Eye-openers.” Who knew that a near-death experience could teach someone that perhaps life shouldn’t revolve solely around cash and chaos? It’s almost poetic. If only we could get a reality show on *that*!
Final Thoughts
So, as we await the latest episodes filled with familial drama, gripping health updates, and overly emotional moments, we can’t help but reflect: how much do we really need to dial it up to eleven for TV? But then again, every tear, every argument, and every heartwarming moment hooks us right back in. Grab your tissues (and perhaps some snacks)!
