Southampton vs Stoke City, James Bree’s Late Goal Ensures The Saints Advance to the League Cup Quarter-Finals

JAMES Bree scored a goal in the 88th minute to ensure Southampton beat Championship Division club Stoke City and advanced to the League Cup quarter-finals, Wednesday (30/10) early morning WIB.

Bree broke through Stoke’s goal with a hard kick from the edge of the penalty box after receiving a shout from Kamaldeen Sulemana.

The Saints took a 2-0 lead in the first half through Taylor Harwood-Bellis’ header in the 19th minute using Matheus Fernandes’ corner kick and Adam Armstrong’s penalty in the 35th minute after Yukinari Sugawara was brought down by Jaden Dixon in the forbidden box.

Towards the end of the first half, in the 45th minute to be precise, Stoke reduced their deficit when Eric Bocat’s free kick hit Sugawara and the ball was struck by Ashley Phillips. It was Phillips’ first goal for Stoke.

Tom Cannon then ensured Stoke equalized in the 54th minute after receiving Junior Tchoamadeu’s cross.

Substitute Million Manhoef almost put Stoke back in the lead but Sugawara was able to stop his effort.

Bree then appeared as a hero for the Saints with his goal in the 88th minute.

Southampton is certain to win 3-2 over Stoke City in the League Cup match. (bbc/Z-1)
