Polls open from tomorrow from 7 am to 11 pm, and then also on Monday from 7 am to 3 pm, in a Liguria under orange weather alert which will go to vote for the renewal of the president of the Region and the regional council. A total of 1,348,601 Ligurian voters will be called to the polls to elect the next governor to lead the Region. Elections that arrive 1 year earlier than the natural expiration of the mandate, after the resignation of Giovanni Toti following the investigation and arrests of May 7th. The voters are distributed among the provinces as follows: of the total, 653,064 are residents in the metropolitan city of Genoa, 161,132 in the Province of Imperia, 170,806 in the Province of La Spezia, 216,985 in the Province of Savona and 146,614 resident abroad.
There are nine candidates in total for the office of president of the Region: the mayor of Genoa and candidate for the centre-right in Liguria Marco Bucci, who presents himself as ‘civic’ but supported by the parties, Fdi, Lega, FI, Noi Moderati. Then there is the former minister and candidate of the ‘wide field’ Andrea Orlando, supported by Pd, M5s, Avs, Azione. The former president of the Anti-Mafia Commission Nicola Morra of United for the Constitution. And then again, Francesco Toscano, candidate of Sovereign People’s Democracy, Nicola Rollando candidate of the radical left-wing list ‘For the Alternative’, Maria Antonietta Cella candidate of the Northern People’s Party, Alessandro Rosson for the far-right Independence list, Davide Felice for the Forza del Popolo movement and Marco Ferrando of the Communist Workers Party.
In 2020, at the last regional electoral round, in the midst of Covid, President Giovanni Toti asserted himself, winning a second term with 56.13% of the votes against Ferruccio Sansa’s 38.90%. The weather scenario for the next two days is worrying. Following the wave of bad weather that is raging across Liguria, to guarantee the right to vote and the usability of the polling stations, the prefectures are currently keeping in contact with the municipalities following the set-up operations. Already in recent days a letter had been sent for precautionary orientation purposes inviting the mayors to monitor the possible presence of polling stations in areas that could experience a risk of flooding in the event of heavy rainfall and, if necessary, think of an alternative. At the moment there are no seat transfers in the Genoa area, in the province of Savona there are 4 municipalities that have communicated the seat transfers, the municipality of Vado Ligure, Quiliano, Spotorno and Borgio Verezzi.
