Mohammad Bilal Akhunzada, a resident of Mardan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Pakistan’s ‘first’ skating coach, has been teaching the art of skating not only to his countrymen but also to foreigners in Islamabad for the past several years.

Speaking to Independent Urdu, Bilal said that he passed through Attabad Lake, Kafaristan, Gilgit and Chilas during the four-day trip.
He said that during the trip he got the most entertainment from the beauty of the northern regions and he will continue to explore these regions through skates.
Bilal further said that the journey to the China border was not easy for him as it required a lot of effort to skate in the mountainous areas and to cross the height, which caused a lot of pain in the feet.
He said that as he was going up towards the border, it was becoming difficult to breathe due to lack of oxygen.
According to Bilal: ‘At Babu Sir Top I was very tired and looked like I would not be able to go any further, but I did not lose heart and completed the journey despite many difficulties.’

Bilal said that skating while climbing hills is not less of a challenge because the speed decreases while going uphill while the speed of the skate becomes very high while going down, which can lead to accidents.
He said that the most dangerous place in his journey started from there where there are different turns between the blind mountains. It was not known which vehicle was coming from the front and whether it was coming or not. Even a slight mistake at this point can be fatal for the skater.’
According to Bilal, in such a situation, he even intended to end the journey several times but his brother and friends discouraged him.
There are thousands of students of Bilal abroad including Pakistan. He said: ‘In total I have more than 20 thousand students.’
Bilal gives skating training to Madrasa children free of charge and also bears their expenses from his own pocket.
