Kidney disease, kidney failure results from an inability of the kidneys to properly filter metabolic waste from the blood, leading to the destruction of the kidneys. In about 50% of cases, kidney failure is caused by the patient’s diabetes or high blood pressure. In the terminal stage, treatment is limited to dialysis or kidney transplantation.
