The debate is not new: is it wise to shoot too many deer in the forests during the hunting season? Even hunters are not necessarily in favor of it: in 2021, in the Mormal forest, naturalists and the federation of northern hunters joined forces against the ONF, believing that the organization was asking them to cull too many deer. The debate resurfaces in Oise, in the Compiègne forest, this month. According to The Parisianthree exceptional deer were slaughtered in less than two weeks.

Recourse to court

These large deer, that is to say over ten years old, were killed either during private hunts or driven drives. The practice is completely legal. But a commitment binds hunters and the Oise federation to refrain from killing more than 20% of large deer so as not to weaken their population. Despite everything, the departmental hunting plan is the subject of an appeal to the administrative court by three associations, who believe that it is still too much.

“Moderation”

Jean-Luc Caron of the Oise Nature association, interviewed by The Parisiandenounces “ those who do not know the territory and come to treat themselves to a trophy at a lower cost (…) When we have already shot a large deer on a hunt, we could refrain from killing a second one in the process “. A few weeks earlier, the Oise hunting federation also called for “ proof of discernment and moderation ».
