At a lively developer showcase on Tuesday, “Disney Dreamlight Valley” unveiled an exciting roadmap extending through Summer 2025, highlighting key details about its second paid expansion and a series of upcoming free game updates crafted by Gameloft, the studio behind the beloved title.
As part of this presentation, Disney and Gameloft revealed that the Gold Edition of “Disney Dreamlight Valley,” which bundles the base game with the “A Rift in Time” expansion and exclusive bonus in-game items, will soon be phased out in anticipation of the release of the new paid expansion, “The Storybook Vale,” set to launch on November 20.
“The Storybook Vale” expansion, priced at $29.99, will require players to own the base game, currently available for $39.99. Additionally, a “magical edition” priced at $49.99 will provide players with exclusive in-game items. This expansion will unfold in two parts: the first chapter, “Welcome to the Vale,” launches on November 20, followed by “The Unwritten Realms” which is scheduled for Summer 2025.
The first drop will feature the debut of iconic Disney and Pixar characters, including Flynn Rider from “Tangled,” Merida from “Brave,” and Hades from “Hercules.” Notably, the villain Maleficent from “Sleeping Beauty” will return more prominently in Part 2, while Gameloft developers hinted at the arrival of Princess Aurora, also known as Sleeping Beauty.
Per the description for the “Welcome to the Vale” story, players will embark on a mythical adventure to assist the Lorekeeper in restoring a distant land while interacting with the likes of Merida, Flynn, and Hades throughout their journey. Meanwhile, the second part, “The Unwritten Realms,” invites players to join forces with Maleficent to explore a mysterious world beneath the Storybook Vale and unravel the enigma surrounding a missing princess.
While “The Storybook Vale” paid expansion consists of only two parts compared to the three chapters in the previous expansion, “A Rift in Time,” Gameloft developers assured fans during the showcase that these two segments will offer a more rich and cohesive narrative than the segmented chapters released over the past year.
In “The Storybook Vale” expansion, players will gain access to a new net tool specifically designed to capture magical creatures called “Snippets,” allowing them to restore the enchantment of Disney and Pixar stories within the pages of the Lorekeeper’s book. The update will introduce three fresh biomes within the Storybook Vale: The Bind, characterized by dark academia, Ever After, showcasing a whimsical fairy forest filled with magical mushrooms, and Mythopia, inspired by Greco-Roman mythology. Each biome will also introduce new animals for players to befriend and transform into companions, including dragons, owls, and mini winged horses.
On the free update front, “Disney Dreamlight Valley” is set to release “Sew Delightful” on December 4, featuring a holiday-themed “Frost & Fairies Star Path” that will spotlight the beloved character Sally from “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” This update will also introduce innovative “floating islands” that serve as extensions of four existing Valley biomes, providing ample creative space for players to design and accommodate villagers. Additionally, players will now have the ability to rotate items and homes with 16 distinct points for placement.
The showcase further teased exciting new narratives and characters slated for future “Disney Dreamlight Valley” free updates throughout the coming year, including features related to “Aladdin” in early 2025, an “Alice in Wonderland” update in the spring, and the captivating mystery of Skull Rock, which hints at a thrilling connection to “Peter Pan” set to unfold next summer.
