Spying and illegally acquiring confidential data seems to have become activities of common interest. Not only the president of the Senate Ignazio La Russa, but also Matteo Renzi, former prime minister and leader of Italia Viva, is among the people of interest to Enrico Pazzali, president of Fiera Milano, investigated for the alleged criminal association dedicated to the theft of sensitive information. At the center of the investigation is the Equalize company, of which Pazzali is the majority shareholder and the former super policeman Carmine Gallo (under house arrest) is a minority shareholder. “Another spy scandal, abusive wiretaps, dossiers. My name is still in the crosshairs, in Milan as it had already happened in Bari, in the searches of corrupt financiers as in the illegal publications of the Fatto Quotidiano”, Renzi replied via social media.
“For years I have been the subject of a violent campaign against me and my family: anyone who has read Il Mostro knows what I’m talking about. But perhaps today we need to make a further reflection, even beyond the aggression that I am suffering: in a world in which data is the new oil we must have the courage to state that the violation of mobile phones or computers is a very serious crime and that the publication of illegitimate data is not a right to report but a crime. Yes, journalist friends: a crime”, said the leader of Iitalia Viva.
For Renzi this is nothing new. “They did it systematically with me and set up a devastating fake news circus. But if we don’t put limits they will do it more and more with everyone”, continued the former prime minister”. Then the conclusion: “If we don’t let’s put limits on abusive wiretapping and limits on illegal publications, no citizen will be free anymore. Privacy is an inalienable human right. They took it away from me a long time ago: let’s work so that the same thing doesn’t happen to you too. What is happening is huge, don’t underestimate it.”
