Facebook Fury and a Bloomin’ Good Arrest
Picture the scene: a sunny day in Palermo, a neighborhood rife with character—and perhaps a touch of chaos. And then we have our star of the show: a 35-year-old bloke just trying to echo his frustrations about his gig loss during the lockdown. And how does he do this? With a Facebook post as subtle as a sledgehammer to a glass window! Blimey! Can someone tell me when social media became the modern equivalent of shouting ‘Fire!’ in a crowded theater?
The outburst on Facebook during the lockdown
So, there he is, frustrated from losing his job in Malta due to COVID-19 madness, and in a moment of utter brilliance, he types away about how he’d “be ready to plant a bomb” in an institutional building. Sounds like a simple cry for help, or perhaps he was auditioning for the role of ‘Most Likely to Make Friends with the Met.’ He should’ve just posted a picture of a sad face, but no, he decided an explosive metaphor was the way to go! Good grief!
The search and seizure
Now the Maltese police, probably with cups of strong coffee in hand, stumbled across his post and thought, “This guy sounds like trouble! Let’s have a look!” They searched his place only to find two sad little marijuana plants. Just two! I mean, with all that drama, you’d think they’d find a whole marijuana farm. Clearly, the man is a horticulturalist, but not a very successful one. So they confiscated his plants—guess that’s the real crime in Malta now! He faces a potential 4 years for being a dramatic gardener. What a time to be alive!
Between a Rock and a Hard Place
Speaking of hard places, let’s dive into the world of drug dealing. While our Facebook warrior was busy battling invisible foes, a 62-year-old chap named Stefano Bologna got himself into a right pickle with the law. Arrested for drug dealing over a year ago but clearly not the brightest bulb in the box, he ended up part of a criminal organization called “Nemesis” – because why not give your crime ring a name that sounds like a Marvel villain?
Drug dealing in Sperone, assets worth 500 thousand euros seized from the suspect
The Carabinieri did their thing and seized assets worth half a million euros. I don’t know about you, but if my bank account was swelling from dodgy dealings, I’d probably keep my head down and take up stamp collecting instead! They even found a bar and banking relationships linked to this guy! Sounds like a scene from a bad thriller where the protagonist is just trying to keep it all together but loses to a pack of wild police.
Conclusion: A Comedy of Errors
Please, folks, if you’re angry about your government or your job, perhaps a little less social media bravado and a bit more quiet contemplation would do the trick. And if you’re listening, Stefano Bologna: maybe consider a career in bartending instead of drug dealing? You might just find that pouring pints is less risky—and funnier too! Because at the end of the day, who wants to end up as the star of a bizarre news article with their questionable life choices on full display?
In a routine check earlier this week, police officers apprehended a 35-year-old man in the Brancaccio neighborhood of Palermo. Upon reviewing their records, it was revealed that a European arrest warrant had been issued for him by the Maltese justice system, stemming from a criminal case initiated in 2020 related to incendiary comments he made on Facebook.
The outburst on Facebook during the lockdown
Amid the pandemic lockdown, the man, who was employed in Malta, lost his job due to the health crisis, which forced him to return to his hometown of Palermo. Frustrated and desperate, he took to Facebook to vent his anger against the Maltese institutions and the Italian embassy, claiming he had received no assistance. His inflammatory post included a disturbing assertion that he would be willing to plant a bomb at an institutional building, alarming the authorities.
The search and seizure
In response to his alarming comments, Maltese police executed a search warrant at his apartment, where they discovered only two marijuana plants, which were confiscated in accordance with Maltese law. Consequently, he now faces potential charges that could lead to a sentence of up to four years in prison. Although the arrest has been validated, he has been ordered to reside in Palermo pending further legal proceedings.
Drug dealing in Sperone, assets worth 500 thousand euros seized from the suspect
The Carabinieri of the investigative unit of the provincial command in Palermo executed a seizure decree, resulting in the confiscation of assets worth 500 thousand euros tied to Stefano Bologna, a 62-year-old man arrested in October 2021 as part of the operation dubbed “Nemesis.” He was accused of dealing hashish and marijuana and has since been sentenced to 2 years and 8 months in prison.
The investigation, carried out by the Carabinieri from February to July 2018 and coordinated by the DDA, uncovered a criminal organization overseeing drug trafficking in the Sperone district of Palermo. These operations were often run by entire families, some of whom exploited minors to sell drugs, concealing narcotics in nearby alleys, residences, and even in the bedrooms of their children.
Law enforcement officials determined that Bologna’s assets were directly linked to his illegal activities, leading to the seizure of a bar located in Bagheria, along with associated business assets and four banking accounts.
