The Afghan was taken to the Innsbruck prison on the orders of the public prosecutor, the police announced on Monday. The man had apparently been riding a bicycle and had hit cars with a heavy bicycle folding lock. According to the executive, the damage is in the six-figure euro range.
The Afghan was arrested as part of a manhunt. The first acts of vandalism were reported in the Tyrolean capital between 7:45 p.m. and 8:10 p.m. in the area of Fürstenweg, Unterbergstrasse, Franz-Fischer-Strasse, Sonnenburgstrasse and Speckbacherstrasse. After an initial search was unsuccessful, the 27-year-old appeared again on Kaufmannstrasse around midnight. He hit vehicles again at random. Shortly after midnight he was caught by a police patrol in the Rossau area and the folding bicycle lock was confiscated. The police asked those affected to contact the Innsbruck Criminal Investigation Department (Tel. 059133 75 3333).
