Iraq protests Israel’s violation of its airspace in its attack on Iran

Iraq – Iraq announced, on Monday morning, that it had submitted an official memorandum of protest to the United Nations and the UN Security Council condemning Israel’s “blatant” violation of its airspace in its attack on Iran.

The Iraqi government spokesman, Bassem Al-Awadi, said in a statement, a copy of which was received by Anadolu: Iraq officially submitted a memorandum of protest to the Secretary-General of the United Nations and to the UN Security Council.

He explained that the memorandum “contained a condemnation of the blatant violation committed by the Zionist entity by violating Iraq’s airspace and sovereignty by its aggressor planes, and using Iraqi airspace to carry out the attack on the Islamic Republic of Iran on October 26.”

“Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani also directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to communicate with the American side regarding this violation, in accordance with the terms of the bilateral strategic framework agreement, and the United States’ commitment to the security and sovereignty of Iraq,” according to the statement.

Al-Awadi continued: “The Iraqi government affirms its firm commitment to Iraq’s sovereignty, independence, and the sanctity of its lands, and that it is working at various levels to confront these violations.”

He stressed “not allowing the use of Iraqi airspace or lands to attack other countries, especially neighboring countries with whom Iraq has relations of respect and common interests.”

Al-Awadi added: “This position reflects Iraq’s keenness to follow a policy of maintaining stability in the region, by preventing any exploitation of its lands in regional conflicts, and its support for resolving disputes through dialogue and mutual understanding.”

At dawn on Saturday, the Israeli army announced an attack with fighter jets on Iran, which it said had successfully confronted “the Zionist entity’s attempts to attack some points in Tehran and the country.” The attack resulted in the deaths of 4 soldiers and one civilian, according to official data.
