The county road has been closed twice in the past week due to storms, with lots of wind and snow. It was last closed on Sunday at 8pm.
– The road reopened today at 12 o’clock. Right now there is no report of any danger of anything in the mountains being closed, says traffic operator Eirik Elnes at the Road Traffic Center to NTB.
Winter is here
Over the weekend, Norway set the clocks to winter time, and at altitude it changes from minus to plus degrees in the course of a day.
Elnes reminds us that this can lead to challenges, especially after rainfall, and uses Dyranut on Hardangervidda as an example.
– It was white there this morning, but cloudy now, and there was no forecast for precipitation today. But on Wednesday and not least on Thursday, rainfall has been reported, up to 43 millimeters. Then the roads can become very slippery when it goes from minus degrees to plus during the day, he says.
Ask if summer tires are ok
In general, Elnes recommends everyone who will be traveling at altitude now and in the future to take a look at the Swedish Road Administration’s recently upgraded and updated view of mountain passes.
There you can check future risks, weather forecasts – and check the webcam on site.
– Pictures say more than a thousand words. Many people call us and wonder if they can drive on summer tires where they are going. Then I say that they should dress according to the conditions, and check the transitions in question themselves.
